It is with deep sorrow that we announce the death of Juan Alvarez III who passed away on July 1, 2023, at the age of 65. Juan was born April 20, 1958, in Corpus Christi, TX.
Juan was the beloved son of the late Juan and Hortencia Alvarez (Pena). He is preceded in death by his son, Jason Alvarez; brothers, Eusebio Alvarez, Adan Alvarez, Juan Alvarez Jr., David Alvarez; and sister, Amelia Martinez; whose memories he held close to his heart.
Left to cherish the memory of his life are his four children, Lisa (Omar) Herrera, Juan Alvarez IV, Leslie Alvarez, Michael (Krista) Alvarez; thirteen grandchildren, Eric, Omar, Marisa (Romeo), Ava, Gabriel, Jesse, Jason, Joshua, Josiah, Iliana, Sophia, Scarlett and Isabella; four great-grandchildren, Camila, Leia, Romeo Jr. and Grayson; three sisters, Francisca Gonzalez, Eva Livas, and Josie Carranza; one brother, Enrique Alvarez; and Leticia, the mother of his children, to whom he was married for 29 years.
Juan worked hard all his life and began raising his family at a young age. He spent most of his life working as a truck driver and mechanic and was always the first person to call when your car broke down or you were stranded on the side of the road. He was no stranger to hard work and labor. He faced and overcame many struggles and difficulties throughout his life - and yet in his own weakness, he brought others to Christ. He was stubborn, relentless, and a survivor. And that same Alvarez spirit was passed on to all of his children. He showed love in his own way and was easy to forgive and forget as if nothing had ever happened - something we all continue to learn from and work on. If you missed his call, he almost always left a voice message; something we are now left to cherish and go back to, to hear his voice. Juan found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He enjoyed going for a cruise and listening to classic "oldies but goodies." He was a fan of classic television shows, with The Waltons, The Andy Griffith Show, and MeTV among his favorites. Juan could strike up a conversation with anyone and enjoyed getting to know everyone.
As the years went on and his health declined, certain moments became more profound. He slowed down a little but still found opportunities to make special memories with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Birthdays, the birth of great-grandchildren, family celebrations and even a wedding. Most recently, traveling to Houston, TX, where he lived briefly in the early years of raising his family, and where he often spoke of returning for a visit. We are grateful that we took that simple opportunity to celebrate family and life itself. He had a close bond with his grandchildren, especially the boys, and shared stories about himself and his life. He absolutely became the doting grandfather and great-grandfather to Sophia, Scarlett, Isabella, Camila, Leia, and Grayson. He had his own special relationship with the Lord, and we pray that he will soon know the love he has always longed for, in the embrace of His Father.
His children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren will forever be the greatest accomplishment and testament to his life. Juan's memory will live on in the hearts of his family and all those who had the privilege of knowing him. Thank you to every single person who were ever and always the hands and feet of Christ to our father and who showed him unconditional love. Thank you, dad, for being relentless and never giving up on us. You have taught us more than you will ever know. "In Christ there are no goodbyes and in Christ there is no end."
As we mourn the loss of Juan Alvarez III, we also celebrate his life and the love he shared with us. His memory will forever be a beacon of love, strength, and perseverance. He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. "Take care of your father when he is old; grieve him not as long as he lives. Even if his mind fails, be considerate of him; revile him not in the fullness of your strength. For kindness to a father will not be forgotten, it will serve as a sin offering; it will take lasting root. In times of tribulation, it will be recalled to your advantage, like warmth upon frost it will melt away your sins." - Sirach 3: 12-15
