Juan Alvarez Galvan passed away peacefully and surrounded by family on January 10, 2022, at the age of 94, in his hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas. Juan was born on October 20, 1927, in Gonzalez, Texas. Even at an early age, he didn’t shy from hard work, taking his first job at age 9 as a ranch hand to help his family put food on the table. Juan was a true Renaissance man. As a self-trained engineer, mechanic, and master builder, he poured all his incredible talents into every job and project. He ‘retired’ from Koch Industries in 1987 but never stopped showing his love through the many projects he completed in service to his family.
Juan met the love of his life, Adela Valadez, at the board walk in North Beach. They were married in 1951 and shared 67 wonderful years together until her passing in 2018. Together they raised five children and took on a great grandchild as a son later in life. Juan loved to take his family back to Gonzalez to buy sausage at the Gonzalez Meat Market. He enjoyed taking afternoon walks at Waters Edge Park, spending hours watching the cargo ships, reminding him of days he worked as a longshoreman.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Adela; his father, Pablo Galvan; his mother, Santos Alvarez Galvan; his sister, Benita Galvan; and his grandson Ryan Lekosky.
He was survived by his children; Catalina Galvan, Beatrice (Richard) Trevino, Lucy (Bill) Lekosky, Paul (Olga) Galvan, Lorena Galvan, Johnathan Galvan; his brother, Simon Galvan, 14 grandchildren; and 22 great grandchildren.
Juan will be honored in a small private ceremony.
