Juan Gilberto Valdez

Juan Gilberto Valdez passed away while surrounded by his loving family on Monday, December 5, 2022.  Juan was born on May 9, 1963, to his parents, Valentin Jr and Edna Valdez. He was dearly loved and will be greatly missed by everyone who knew him.

Juan was a 1981 San Diego High School graduate and was a football running back Vaquero, who was very proud to wear his #22 jersey. He enjoyed spending time with family. He was firm and strict, but became child-like when playing with the children. He was the #1 fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Boston Celtics and fan of all sports. Juan was employed as a Deputy by the Duval County Sheriff’s Dept, under the leadership of Sheriff Santiago Barrera. He also worked for the Texas Dept of Criminal Justice at the McConnell Unit in Beeville, Texas as a Correctional Officer as COR3.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Valentin Jr and Edna Valdez, and a brother, Genaro Valdez.

Juan is survived by his son, Juan Miguel Valdez; his sister, Annabel (Jesse) Trevino; his brother, Valentin Omar Valdez; one granddaughter, Zoe Olivia Valdez, and his loving pet dog Jack; along with numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles and extended family.

The family will receive condolences on Friday, December 9, 2022, at Treviño Funeral Home Alice, 120 E. Front St., from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM; with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 1:00 PM. Liturgy of the Word will begin at 1:30 PM. Funeral cortege will follow for Rite of Committal and Interment at San Diego Cemetery.

Honoring Juan as pallbearers are Juan Miguel Valdez, Omar Valdez, Jesse Daniel Trevino, Bruno Valdez, Leandro Lichtenberger, and Joshua Trevino.
