Juanita (Janie) H. Vela, age 84, passed away on June 4, 2023, in Corpus Christi, TX. She was born on June 24, 1938, in Laredo, TX to Nicolas and Delfina H. Vela. Juanita was a loving daughter and mother and was devoted to her parents, siblings, and children. Juanita was a kind-hearted individual who had many friends and was always ready to lend a helping hand. Juanita was preceded in death by her parents, Nicolas and Delfina H. Vela; her siblings Nicolas Oscar Vela and Juan Vela. She is survived by her children, Sylvia L. Solis (Eugenio) and Jorge Luis Aguilar (Rebecca†); her sister, Delfina Siegel; grandchildren, Eugenio Soils III (Brenda), Eduardo Javier Solis (Andrea), Ashlee Ann Aguilar, and Andrew Anthony Aguilar; great-grandchildren, Shelby R. Solis, Andrew Solis, Andrew M. Solis, Eleanor Rae Solis, Eduardo Javier Solis Jr., and Esteven Javier Solis; her great-great-grandchildren, Jon Anthony Garcia and Kairi Marie M. Solis; along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family. Juanita attended and graduated from Martin High School and later attended Laredo Junior College. She was a lifelong learner and always eager to expand her knowledge. Her education and experiences shaped her into the remarkable woman she was, and her wisdom and guidance will be missed by all who knew her. Juanita had a passion for interior decorating, which she used to create warm and inviting spaces for her family and friends. Her keen eye for detail and design made her home a beautiful and comfortable place for all who entered. She also had a love for gardening, which was evident in her trees and flowers she planted around her home throughout her life. Juanita's green thumb brought beauty and life to her surroundings, and her plants were a testament to her dedication and hard work. In addition to her love for decorating and gardening, Juanita was a talented seamstress and knitter. Juanita's sewing and knitting skills were a source of pride and joy for her, and she was always eager to share her talents with others. Juanita also had a passion for taking photographs and was often seen with a camera in hand, capturing the memories of her beautiful family. She also took interest in making flower arrangements, which she skillfully crafted to brighten the lives of those around her. She would also enjoy collecting coins, in which she found joy being able to share her knowledge of her coins with others. Juanita's love for collecting coins was a testament to her curiosity and appreciation for the world around her. In conclusion, Juanita H. Vela was a remarkable woman who touched the lives of many with her kindness, generosity, and talents. Her devotion to her family, friends, and interests will be remembered and cherished by all who knew her. Juanita's spirit and love for life will live on through the memories and stories shared by those who were fortunate enough to know her. She will be deeply missed, but her legacy will continue to inspire and uplift those who carry her memory in their hearts.
In honor of Juanita, a Memorial Mass will be held at 10:00 AM, on Friday, June 23, 2023, at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church, 1718 San Jorge Ave, Laredo, TX. Rite of Committal and Inurnment will follow at Calvary Catholic Cemetery, 3600 McPherson Rd, Laredo, TX. Relatives and friends are welcome to attend the service. Flowers and Condolences may be sent to Treviño Funeral Home, in Corpus Christi, TX.
