Leo Lowry Jr.

Leo Lowry Jr. was united with the Lord on December 23, 2021. He was born on January 11, 1936 in Weatherford, Texas, the only child to Leo and Ivy Lee Lowry. He was a loving, always caring husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. Leo’s engrossing storytelling, quick wit, vast knowledge, and strong agape love will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Leo reminisced fondly about growing up in small town Weatherford and loved sharing tales of childhood adventures and anecdotal stories of relatives living close by. Leo graduated from Weatherford High School in 1954, where he was a member of the fighting Kangaroos football team.

Leo was an avid and accomplished student, receiving 4 college degrees after high school, all while working full-time during the day, being married to Joye Lowry, raising a family, participating in the US Army Reserves, and preaching at two Ft. Worth area churches. Leo attended the University of Texas at Arlington where he received his undergraduate degree in accounting. He then went on to receive his MBA from Corpus Christi State University, where he also continued his last two master’s degrees in counseling, then testing and diagnostics.

Leo Lowry was dedicated and driven. He began his career in the US Army, and eventually, finished as Master Sergeant Lowry. He could take apart an M60 army tank, weight lift the axle, put it back together, and drive it off while firing the large gun. After being enlisted, Leo switched to the army reserves, while he worked for the Tarrant County Water District, then as an accountant at the Texas Department of Highways in Ft. Worth, Texas. Next, he oversaw Standard Meat Processing Company’s accounting. While still living in Ft. Worth, Leo became a state auditor for MHMR. Leo retired as the Business Manager/Assistant Superintendent at Corpus Christi State School after 20 years. After retirement, Leo kept on working, teaching business and accounting classes at Del Mar College, and master’s level courses at Naval Air Station Corpus Christi and Naval Air Station Kingsville. During this period, he became known as “the bee man” to the local Portland police, doing bee jobs with his wife, Katy, encompassing areas from the King Ranch to Port A. Leo’s knowledge of bees was learned as a child growing up with seventy backyard beehives and his father’s shared beekeeping expertise.

In his leisure time, Leo loved get togethers with his family, chatting and playing dominoes. In his 85 years, Leo never forgot a name of anyone he met and would enthrall family with stories of the past. He enjoyed several hobbies throughout the years, including weightlifting, boating, fishing, camping, hiking, and RV adventuring with Katy by his side.

Leo’s greatest passion in life was his love of God, which he shared with everyone, whether friend or stranger. No one ever met Leo without hearing about God’s abundant love and salvation for all who look to Him. Leo gave glory to Christ for everything in his life, and his family follows this legacy.

Leo is preceded in passing by his first wife of 31 years, Joye Eppler Lowry; his son, Scott Clarence Leo Lowry; and his stepson, Carlos “Charlie.”

Leo leaves his loving memories to his beloved wife of the last 30 years, Enriqueta “Katy” Lowry; his daughter, Nancy (Bruce) Hawn and their children, Candace, Caitlyn, Ben, and Jon; his daughter, Lisa Jesse and her children, Kailey and Nathan; his daughter, Jennifer (Michael) Caskey and their children, Kennedy and Walker; his son, Lance Leo (April) Lowry and their daughter, Camilla, and Lance’s children, Cristin and Mattox; his great grandchildren, Gavin, Hartley, Elloise, and Barbara; his stepdaughter-in-law, Veronica and her children, Sarah (Nathan), Chris, Natalie, Cybella, and Karl; his stepdaughter, Sandra (Joe) and their children, Robert, Mindy, and Roni; his stepson, John (Aurelia) and their son, Mikel.

Services will be held at the Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery in Corpus Christi, Texas and the Oakland Cemetery in Weatherford, Texas.
