Luis Ricardo "Rick" Bernal, Jr. passed away peacefully while surrounded by his loving family on July 3, 2025, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Born on September 19, 1972, in Alice, Texas, Rick lived a life dedicated to his family and was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather, and dear friend.
Rick was known for his vibrant personality and infectious sense of humor. He was often the life of the party, whether it involved cheering on his favorite Dallas Cowboys during football games, or bringing in a big fish while fishing, or gathering with friends for barbecues enjoying his favorite beverage, a cool Miller Lite. Above all, Rick cherished the moments spent with his family, where laughter, joy, and love reigned supreme.
A proud member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Rick found great purpose in his involvement with the ACTS community, which stands for Adoration, Community, Theology, and Service. His time with ACTS deepened his spirituality and fostered meaningful bonds with his ACTS brotherhood, enriching his life and those around him.
In terms of education, Rick earned his GED from Alice Independent School District, demonstrating his commitment to personal growth. Rick was a man of strength, and faith who fought his battle with courage and perseverance.
Rick’s legacy will live on through his children, Luis Ricardo "Rick" Bernal, III, Jesus Rene "JR" Bernal, Zerek (Ianhary) Bernal, Liam Bernal, and Kelly Bernal, who were the love and light of his life; along with his grandson, Luis Ricardo IV; and granddaughter, Amor Bernal. He is also survived by his parents, Luis and Vilma Bernal; his siblings, Orlando Rene (Helen) Bernal and Gabriel (Amy) Bernal; as well as numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
Rick is preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Roman and Concepcion "Mac & Chonita" Bernal, and his maternal grandparents, Pete and Paula Pena.
As we bid farewell to Luis Ricardo “Rick” Bernal, Jr., we celebrate a life lived with joy, laughter, and a deep love of family. His remarkable spirit, generosity, and humor will continue to shine in the hearts of all who had the privilege to have known this incredible man. Rick will be deeply missed but fondly remembered for his unwavering love for family and friends.
