Obituary

Luis G. Garcia, Jr. passed away on November 1, 2026, in Alice, Texas; he was 76 years old. His passing leaves a deep sorrow in the hearts of those who knew and loved him, and he will be remembered with enduring affection by his family and friends.

He was born on January 21, 1950, in Benavides, Texas, attended school and graduated from Benavides High School in 1968, medaling in the national competition of the University Interscholastic League (UIL) for Number Sense. He enlisted in the Army Reserves from 1970 to 1976 receiving an Honorable Discharge. Luis worked his way up from apprentice plumber to master plumber in 1990, working as a master plumber for 36 years.

Luis shared his life with his beloved wife, Mary Garcia. Together they built a family that remained at the center of his life. He is lovingly survived by Mary; by his son, Luis Gilberto Garica III, and daughter-in-law, Zulema; and by his daughter, Laura Gabriela Vallejo, and son-in-law, Jose. He also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, Isabela, Kailtlyn, Evan, Brennon, Lucas, Luis Fernando, and Luciana, whose lives carry forward his memory and love.

He is also survived by his sisters, Herlinda Zambrano and Magdalena Martinez; his brothers, Frank Garcia and Joe Henry Garcia; and by Frank’s wife, Bertha. His memory will also be treasured by his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, including Diamantina Quiroz, John De La Fuente, David De La Fuente, Oralia Garcia, and Ruben Cantu. Each of them shared in the family bond that meant so much to him, and each will hold close the memory of his life.

Luis was preceded in death by his father and mother, Luis and Elena Garcia; by his sister, Umblina Cantu; and by his brothers-in-law, Rubelen Martinez, Ovidio Zambrano, Homer Quiroz, and Ernesto Garcia.

Luis enjoyed league bowling, deer hunting, helping on his father’s cattle ranch, watching sports, and playing cards. He lived in the city of Alice for 50 years and was on a first name basis with just about everybody in town. Luis enjoyed taking vacations with his family and going out with his wife on the weekends.

Those who loved Luis will remember him not only with sadness at his passing, but also with gratitude for the years they were blessed to share with him. His life was a gift to his family, and his presence will be deeply missed while his memory remains a lasting comfort.

Luis’ family will receive condolences on Friday, November 6, 2026, from 4:00 PM until 8:00 PM, at Treviño Funeral Home, 120 E. Front St.; with recitation of the Holy Rosary beginning at 7:00 PM. A funeral cortege will depart the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Saturday, November 7, 2026, to celebrate a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Elizabeth Catholic Church at 10:00 AM.
