Luis Mata, a beloved member of his family and cherished friend, passed away on January 8, 2026, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Born on September 21, 1964, in Bay City, Texas, Luis lived a life filled with laughter, love, and an unwavering spirit that brought joy to everyone fortunate enough to know him.
Luis was known as the life of the party for any family event. He loved bringing his family together. His love for life was evident in everything he did, from his enthusiasm for gathering with loved ones to his fiery passion for barbecuing delicious meals that brought family and friends together. Whether it was cheering on the Dallas Cowboys, casting a line while fishing, or enjoying a crisp Busch beer with friends, Luis embraced every moment with vigor and joy.
Above all, Luis treasured the time he spent with his grandchildren, Caleb B. Mata and Cayleiigh A. Mata. They were the apples of his eye, and their smiles reflected the deep love he had for them. Their laughter and playful antics were a constant source of happiness for him, and he took great pride in being a doting grandfather.
Luis is survived by his devoted mother, Guadalupe Mata, and his loving sons, Brandon Mata and Nathan Mata. He also leaves behind his dear sister, Alice Valdez, and his brothers, Santiago Valdez Jr.,(Patsy) Robert Valdez, and Jesus Daniel Mata. Luis also leaves behind many nephews, nieces, great-nephews and great-nieces who thought the world of him and loved him very much. Luis would always be on the sidelines cheering and encouraging them during football and baseball season. Each of these family members holds fond memories of Luis, their hearts forever touched by the warmth and kindness he exuded.
A vibrant spirit now at peace, Luis Mata will be deeply missed but never forgotten. His legacy of laughter and love will continue to shine through the stories shared by those he held dear.
