Lydia G. Saenz, an Alice resident since 1945, passed away at her home July 19, 2017. Mrs. Saenz was born November 12, 1924 in Berclair, TX. Mrs. Saenz grew up in San Antonio, TX during the depression and was a soldier’s wife during her husband’s three year deployment in World War II. In the 1940’s, 50’s and 60’s Mrs. Saenz was a very active member of many St. Joseph church functions and organizations. Mrs. Saenz hobbies included but were not limited to, crossword puzzles, cooking, gardening, sewing, traveling and slot machines. Mrs. Saenz was a member of the VFW ladies auxiliary and a former member of the St. Joseph Altar Society. A parishioner at St. Joseph’s Church since 1945.

Mrs. Saenz is survived by her four children; Yolanda S. Almaraz, Sylvia Saenz, Roger (Mary) Saenz of Alice, Rodney Saenz of Laredo, her brother Fidel (Nellie) Garcia, Jr., Her sisters Ida (Gilbert) Ortega, Libby Chapman of San Antonio, 12 grandchildren, 7 great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

Mrs. Saenz was preceded in death by her parents Fidel and Jesusa Garcia, her husband Daniel Saenz, her brother Juventino Garcia, her sisters Viola Roth, Anita Rios, Olga Dumas, Jeanette Everett and Diana Workman.

Serving as Pallbearers will be AD Almaraz, Roger D. Saenz, Edward Daniel Saenz, Daniel Martin Saenz, Mark Anthony Saenz, Andre Carlo Saenz, Gian Carlo Saenz, David Manuel Saenz, and Duvall Michael Saenz.

The family will receive condolences on, Friday, July 21, 2017, at St Joseph Catholic Church from 5 to 9 in the evening; where a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

Funeral cortege will depart the funeral chapel at 11:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 22, 2017, to St Joseph Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 12 p.m.

Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Santa Cruz Family Cemetery in Duval County.

In lieu of flowers her family requests that donations be made to the St. Joseph Church pew replacement project.
