Obituary

Lydia Velasquez, a beloved resident of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away peacefully on March 5, 2026, in her hometown where she was born on June 26, 1955. Throughout her 70 years, Lydia was cherished for her warmth, her spirited love for family, and the simple joys that colored her life.

Born and raised in Corpus Christi, Lydia developed a deep connection to her community and the traditions that enriched her daily experiences. She was an avid lover of games and puzzles, finding pleasure in playing loteria, solving word searches, and completing crossword puzzles. Lydia had a distinctive fondness for Marlboro cigarettes and Dr. Pepper, simple comforts she enjoyed alongside her admiration for butterflies. Her culinary tastes were equally heartfelt, with chalupas being among her favorite treats. Above all, Lydia treasured the moments spent with her family, which brought her the greatest happiness and fulfillment.

Lydia Velasquez leaves behind a devoted brother, Loreto Velasquez Jr., and her children, Melissa Bayardo, Carlos Lopez Jr., and Richard Velasquez. Her loving legacy also continues through her grandchildren, Juan Bayardo, Lydia Fernandez, Krystal Bayardo, Elizabeth Casas, Missa Ann Lopez, Melissa Casas, Anthony Lopez, and Reina Leos, who cherished her dearly. The family lineage further extends to her great-grandchildren, Analynn Amalia Montaño, Peter John Garcia, Azi, and JJ, whose lives she touched profoundly. She was also a beloved aunt to nieces and nephews, Michelle, Moses, Joseph, Paul Joseph, Vanessa Camacho, Diana Rose, Anabella, Mariano, Lily, Shelly, Angel, and Ricardo. Additionally, Lydia is survived by her sister-in-law, Annette Saldua, the Samaniego family, numerous cousins from New Gulf Boling, Texas, and many other extended family members.

Lydia was preceded in death by her parents, Loreto M. and Consuelo S. Velasquez, whose guidance shaped much of her life’s foundation. She was also predeceased by her brothers, Jose Crispin Velasquez and Ricardo Velasquez, as well as her cherished aunt, Amalia S. Hernandez.

Lydia’s family will receive condolences on Tuesday, March 17, 2026, at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St., from 9:00 AM until 11:30 AM with a Holy Rosary to begin at 11:30 AM. A funeral cortege will depart from the funeral home at 12:30 AM for Rite of Committal and Interment at 1:00 PM at Rose Hill Memorial Park.

Lydia’s presence was a gift to all who knew her, and her memory will live on in the hearts of her family and friends. Her life was a testament to love, joy, and the enduring bonds of family. She will be missed dearly but fondly remembered with the respect and affection she so richly deserves.
