Obituary

In Loving Memory of Manuel Chavez

Manuel Chavez, 69, of Corpus Christi, Texas, entered the presence of the Lord on July 23, 2026. He was born on May 30, 1957, in Harlingen, Texas.

Manuel dedicated his life to serving others. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy, attaining the rank of Quartermaster First Class (QM1) before retiring. Following his military service, he continued serving his community through a career with the United States Postal Service, from which he also retired.

A devoted man of faith, Manuel faithfully served as a trustee at Venture Church, formerly known as Cathedral of the Palms. Since 1995, he remained a loyal and dedicated servant of his church, always willing to help wherever he was needed and living as an example of Christian faith and service.

Manuel found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He loved watching boxing and UFC, enjoying movies, and going out to eat with his family. Above all else, he treasured every moment spent with those he loved. His greatest happiness came from being surrounded by his family, especially his grandchildren, who were truly his pride and joy.

He is survived by his loving wife, Maria L. Chavez; his children, Crystal Keighley and her husband, Noah Keighley, Christopher Chavez and his wife, Asaneth Chavez, Cesar Chavez, and Andres Portales; and his beloved grandchildren, Jaxson Keighley, Amaris Chavez, Averie Garcia, Andres G. Portales, and Kylee Portales.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Salvador and Dolores Chavez; his sisters, Lydia Lerma and Teresa Gonzalez; and his brothers, Roberto Chavez, Jose Luis Chavez, and Salvador Chavez Jr.

Manuel will be remembered for his unwavering faith, his servant’s heart, his love for his family, and the kindness he shared with everyone who knew him. His legacy of love, dedication, and devotion to God and family will continue to live on through all those whose lives he touched.

Though he will be deeply missed, his family finds comfort in knowing he is at peace in the presence of his Savior.
