Margarita E. Vela

Margarita Elizabeth “China” Duenes Vela was called home to join her Lord and Savior on April 10, 2018. She was born on January 27, 1954 to Jose Duenes Sr. and America Baltazar Duenes in Corpus Christi, Texas. Margarita was a devout Christian, who lived her life to serve the Lord. She was a member at the Lamb of God Baptist Church for 39 years, where she made lifelong friends.

Margarita was married to her beloved husband, George Vela Sr. for 46 years and raised 4 children together. She enjoyed baking for her family and doting on her grandchildren. Margarita touched so many lives and will be remembered for her humor, infectious smile and kind heart.

Margarita is preceded in death by her infant son, Cruz Vela; her parents, Jose Duenes Sr. and America Duenes; and her two brothers, Jose Duenes Jr. and David Duenes Sr.

Margarita is survived by her loving husband, George Vela Sr.; her cherished children: her son, George (Patricia) Vela Jr., her daughters, Cynthia Vela, Veronica (Antonio) Torres, Laura Vela and her honorary daughter, her niece, Delia Vela. Margarita also leaves behind her deeply loved 14 grandchildren and 6 great-grandchildren; her 3 brothers, Daniel Duenes, Juan Duenes and Rogelio (Pauline) Duenes; her 4 sisters, Consuelo Duenes Vasquez, Mary Helen Duenes Lucio, Delia Duenes (Cruz) Vela, and Linda Duenes; numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be George Vela Jr., Steve Daniel Ayala, Michael Ramos, Roger Duenes, Jose Duenes, Anthony Duenes and Roy Duenes. Honorary Pallbearers will be Brandon Ayala, Jerimiah Garza and Isaiah Garza.

The family will receive condolences on Sunday, April 15, 2018 from 5:00 pm to 9:00 pm at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St. @ Port, with a prayer service at 7:00 pm. Funeral Service will take place on Monday, April 16, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at Lamb of God Baptist Church. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Rosehill Memorial Park.
