Maria "Maringa" Garcia

Maria “Maringa” Garcia was born on July 2, 1924 to Juan De Dios and Cesaria Garcia in Barranco Blanca Ranch in Duval County, Texas. She passed away at the age 93 on July 15, 2017.

Maringa lived a long fulling life and enjoyed bingo, cooking, eating out at her favorite restaurants, and spending time with family. She dedicated her life to caring for others out of pure kindness. Maringa showed those around her how to be happy, how to live peacefully, how to be strong, and how to follow God’s will. On at least two occasions she proved the power of prayer and that miracles in fact do happen. Emma (her 5 year old great granddaughter) summed up her life in 3 simple words that apply to all of us here tonight, “She loved us.” She was preceded in death by her parents, Juan De Dios and Cesaria Garcia; brother, Samuel Garcia; sisters, Ernestina Garcia, Sofia (Frank) Cavazos, Olivia (B.R.) Galvan, and Mena (Jesus) Cavazos.

Left behind to cherish her memory is her family: nephews, Frank (Elena) Cavazos of El Paso, TX, Juan (Erlinda) Galvan of Portland, TX, Samuel J. Galvan of Agua Dulce; niece, Sandra (Jon) West of Agua Dulce, TX.; great grandchildren that she helped raise, Dylan Shawn West, Emma Rae-Ann West, and Nicholas Ryden West; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Samuel Galvan, Gabriel Asevedo, Javier Asevedo, Roy Garcia, Ramiro Cavazos, Edward Garcia, and honorary pallbearer, Jon West.

The family will receive condolences on Monday, July 17, 2017, at Treviño Funeral Home Alice, 120 E. Front St., from 4 to 9 in the evening; where a Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m.

Funeral cortege will depart the funeral chapel at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, July 18, 2017, to St Frances of Rome Catholic Church in Agua Dulce where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 1 p.m. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at New Collins Cemetery.
