Maria Elena Leon

Maria Elena Leon passed away peacefully on Friday, July 26, 2019 at the age of 74. She was born on February 23, 1945 to Jose and Josefa Martinez in Corpus Christi, Texas.

She is fondly remembered by those who loved her. Maria loved to cook for her family; often hosting holiday gatherings. She had a zest for life and family. She enjoyed gardening, dancing, singing, and music.

She is proceeded in death by her husband Julian Leon Jr.; mother Josefa Martinez; and brothers and sisters; Jose Martinez, Alfredo Martinez, Martha Lemos, and Dolores Porter.

Among those left to cherish her memory are her children, Betty Perez (Pablo), Joel Martinez (Mary), Diana V. Gilbert (Edward), Mellissa Villarreal (Jose), JoAnna Martinez Becker, Erasmo “Lamo” Martinez (Lita), Elizabeth P. Martinez (Jesus), and Connie J. Leon (Anthony); twenty one grandchildren; thirty two great-grandchildren; brother, Carlos Martinez (Delia); sister, Janie Medina (Juan); and many wonderful nephews, nieces and friends.

The family will receive condolences on Tuesday, July 30, 2019, from 10:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St. @ Port; with a prayer service and eulogy to begin at 11:00 AM. Services will conclude that afternoon and cremation will follow.
