Marin Hinojosa Sanchez

October 6, 1946 — July 13, 2022

Marin Hinojosa Sanchez

Marin Hinojosa Sanchez Jr., of Corpus Christi, Texas, passed away Wednesday, July 13, 2022, at the age of 75. He was a loving father, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend.

He was preceded in death by his father, Marin R. Sanchez Sr.; mother, Estella H. Sanchez; brother, Ernest H. Sanchez; sister, Helen Trevino; nephew, Robert Trevino; niece, Michelle Meza-Anguiano; nephew, Frederick Meza; and nephew, James Trevino.

Affectionately known as “Yune” by his brothers, sisters, and some friends, and by his nieces and nephews as “Uncle Dundo” or “Uncle Do,” Marin was born on October 6, 1946, in Oakville, Texas.

After some years as a farm laborer, he enlisted in the U.S. Army on May 9, 1967. During his time of serving his country with the 82nd Airborne Division, 101st Airborne Division and the 508th Infantry Regiment, Marin earned the National Defense Service Medal, Parachute Badge, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal w/Device, Army Commendation Medal, Airman Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and the Purple Heart before being Honorably Discharged on May 8, 1970, with the rank of sergeant E-5.

He worked for Coca-Cola for a few years and spent 29½ years with Texas Ecologists.

He was known for his love of The Rolling Stones’ music, in addition to his daily routine of watching The Price is Right, Wheel of Fortune, Jeopardy, the daily news, and whatever sporting event happened to be on TV. He was especially a big fan of the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Astros. He also dabbled with the daily crossword puzzle in the Caller-Times. Another hobby involved the occasional lottery scratch-off ticket with the hope of one day winning “the big one.”

Late in his life he also developed a passion for the moon, and he could be seen outside on a cloudless night staring up at the moon in its many phases.

Left to cherish Marin’s memory are his daughter, Rachel Uwa; son, Mario Sanchez; sister, Celia Ramirez (Mario); sister, Lillie Villarreal; brother, Carlos Sanchez; sister-in-law Nelda Sanchez; nephew, Ernest R. Sanchez; and former wife, Patricia Salazar; and extended family and friends.
