Melvin Kenneth Atkins passed away October 19, 2017 at the age of 85 surrounded by his family. He was born on February 26, 1932 to Ollie and Bertie Atkins in Taft Texas. Melvin proudly served in the US Marine Corps during the Korean War where he was awarded the Korean Service Medal, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He loved to hunt, fish, and smoke his pipe. He was dearly loved by his family and will be sadly missed.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Ollie and Bertie Atkins; brother, Curtis Atkins; sisters, Madeline Brashear, Virginia Henry; and son, Kevin Atkins.
Left behind to cherish his memory is his family: son, Melvin Atkins Jr. (Patsy); daughters, Melynda Phillips (Kenneth), Gwen Frisk (Eric); numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren.
The family will receive condolences on Friday, October 20, 2017, at Treviño Funeral Home, 120 E. Front St., from 4 to 9 in the evening; where a Chapel service will be held at 7:00 p.m.
Rite of Committal and Interment will be celebrated on Saturday, October 21, 2017, at 11:00 a.m. at Choate Baptist Church Cemetery located at 5740 State Highway 239 Kennedy, Texas 78119.
