Nathan Simpson Elwin, Jr., 64, went to be with his Lord on June 12, 2021. Nathan was born on August 29, 1956 in Brownsville, Texas to Nathan and Natalia Elwin.
Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and proudly served our country. During his time in the Army, he received several awards including National Defense Service Medal and Marksman M16. He was stationed in New Jersey and was transferred to Italy to assume his duties. He eventually settled back in Corpus and retired from Spohn Memorial Hospital. He loved watching the Dallas Cowboys football games and San Antonio Spurs basketball games; sometimes even attending home games. Nathan was also an avid fisherman. He supported Texas A&M Aggies where two of his nephews, James and Patrick, attend college. He also continued to support the Port Isabel Tarpons football team.
Nathan was preceded in death by his biological father, Nathan Simpson Elwin, Sr.; his bonus father, Ralph E. Martin; his niece, Catherine Ann George; and most recently, his mother, Natalia Vasquez Martin.
Left behind to cherish his memory are his life companion, Yolanda Llanes; two sons, Anthony Elwin and Adrian Elwin; daughter, Casaundra Elwin; siblings, Rachel (Charles) Perry, Carolyn (Michael) George, Thelma Elwin, and Diana (Arnold) Elwin-Reta; nieces and nephews, Joey Perry, Michael George II, Kimberly (Norman) Gresham, Jennifer (Jesse) Whitehurst, Andrew Perry, Matthew LeDuke, James George, and Patrick George; aunts, Gloria Vasquez, Nellie Vasquez, Norma Vasquez, Mavis (Baldomero) Torres; uncles Charlie (Maria) Vasquez and Noe (Linda) Vasquez; four great-nephews and two great-nieces; as well as numerous aunts, uncles, and cousins who affectionately called him "Capi" for Captain.
The family will receive condolences on Tuesday, June 22, 2021, at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St. @ Port, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM; with a holy rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A Funeral cortege will depart the funeral chapel at 10:30 AM on Wednesday, June 23, 2021, to St. Patrick’s Catholic Church for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11:00 AM. Rite of Committal and Interment with full military honors will follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 PM.
Honoring Nathan as pallbearers will be Joey Perry, Michael George II, Andrew Perry, Matthew LeDuke, James George, and Patrick George.
Having the distinguished honor to serve as an honorary pallbearer, on behalf of the Elwin family, is Nathan’s cousin, Dr. Saxon Borden - General Medicine/Family Medicine, University Professor Chemistry, PADI diving instructor, and Boat Captain.
Face masks must be worn, and social distancing must be practiced while attending funeral services due to the current pandemic.
