Oscar Garza, Sr., 93, of Alice, Texas, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, October 20, 2015, surrounded by his family. He was a master Carpenter and Tejano Music Pioneer. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great, great-great grandfather, brother and uncle. Oscar "LA CHIDA" was one of the original Tejano musicians in the late 40's and early 50's. He played the accordion with the conjunto "El Duo Tejano" and later with several other bands. Oscar was inducted into the Tejano Hall of Fame in 2012. A special thank you to Ruben Cadena and his Radio Show for always recognizing him. He loved your show and listened every Sunday. Oscar will be dearly missed. He is preceded in death by his loving wife of 74 years, Maria L. Garza; parents Dario, and Angelita Garza; brothers, Leocadio Garza, Dario Garza; and sister, Elva Canas. Oscar leaves behind to cherish in his memories his daughter, Maria Elena (Juan) Sanchez; son, Oscar (Janie) Garza, Jr.; grandchildren, Juan (Thelma) Sanchez, III; Rosario (Robert) Garcia; Jose Oscar (Janie) Sanchez; Elsa Martinez, Oscar Joshua Garza; sisters, Delia Perez, Diana Cantu, Dora (Joe) Gomez; endearing cousin, German (Francis) Garza, Jr. who shared his love of music; eleven great-grandchildren, fifteen, great-great grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will be receiving friends at Treviño Funeral Home, 120 E. Front St. Alice, Tx., on Sunday, October 25, 2015 from 3:00 pm to 9:00 pm with a Prayer Service to be held at 6:00 pm. Funeral service will be held 10:00 am on Monday, October 26, 2015 at Corner Stone Baptist Church. Burial will follow New Collins Cemetery. Services under the direction of Bobby Trevino.
