Obituary

Oscar Rivera Ortiz Sr., a cherished father, brother, and friend, entered peacefully into eternal life on Saturday, February 14, 2026, while surrounded by his loving family. He was born to his parents, Octavio and Gertrudes Ortiz, on May 8, 1952, in Orange Grove, Texas. Oscar will be truly missed by those who were fortunate to have known and loved him.

Oscar was a jack of all trades; he was a Motor Grader Operator, who specialized in precision grading, finishing, and leveling surfaces. He also worked with welding, construction, or whatever else needed fixing and retired as an 18-wheeler truck driver, a job he especially enjoyed since he worked alongside his son, Jesse.

Oscar was a quiet, humble, and sincere hardworking man, who was raised with the old-fashioned values of respect, honesty, and punctuality while always practicing his Catholic faith. He enjoyed listening and dancing to Tejano music, but most of all, he enjoyed watching and supporting his sons and grandchildren while they participated in their school sports activities such as football, baseball, and track. Oscar was proud of them and encouraged them to get a good education and live life to the fullest.

Oscar's favorite holidays were Christmas and New Year’s Day, he enjoyed the family gatherings and the time spent celebrating and creating memories while laughing, joking, singing, and sharing memories of growing up. On New Year’s Day, he grilled his famous delicious fried chicken with all the trimmings and waited for Shelly to bring his favorite dessert, lemon meringue pie. He cherished and loved all family gatherings and celebrations including birthdays and anniversaries.

Left to cherish his memories are his loving children, Jesse (Shelly) Ortiz, Tony Ortiz, Danny Ortiz, and Oscar Octavio Ortiz; his siblings, Luis Ortiz, Marcelo (Terry) Ortiz Sr., Canuto (Eloisa) Ortiz Sr., Alicia "Licha" Salinas, and Librado Ortiz; 10 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Octavio and Gertrudes Rivera Ortiz; Sr; his late wife, Isabel V. Ortiz; his son, Oscar Ortiz Jr.; his siblings, Juan Ortiz, Rachel Garza, Maria Salinas, and Paula Salinas; and his sister-in-law, Irma Ortiz.

Honoring Oscar as pallbearers are Jesse Ortiz, Danny Ortiz, Tony Ortiz, Oscar Israel Ortiz, Landon Ortiz, Grant Ortiz Tony Ortiz Jr., and Danny Oritz Jr.

As we remember Oscar Ortiz Sr., we celebrate a life richly lived filled with cherished moments and enduring love. His memory will remain a guiding light within our hearts, a testament to the importance of family, faith, and friendship.
