Peter Mazuca, Jr., a cherished member of the San Antonio community and a dedicated public servant, passed away peacefully on April 27, 2023, in Corpus Christi, TX, at the age of 90. Born on October 19, 1932, in San Antonio, TX, Peter lived a life marked by commitment, integrity, and kindness. He was a man who not only served his city with honor as a police officer but also touched the lives of many with his warm spirit and generous heart. Peter, known affectionately as "Pete" to his friends and family, was the beloved son of Pete A. Mazuca and Benita Mazuca née Gonzales. Though he was preceded in death by his parents and his brother, Edward Mazuca, Sr., his legacy continues through his sister, Benita Christenson; his brother, Charles Mazuca; and the many nephews and nieces who looked up to him as a role model and confidant. Peter also found love many times throughout his long life and is survived by many children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Throughout his career as a police officer in San Antonio, and later a security guard, Peter exemplified the virtues of courage and service. His unwavering dedication to protecting and serving the community earned him the respect and admiration of both his colleagues and those he helped throughout his years in uniform. Peter's commitment to his work was paralleled only by his involvement in various associations, where he contributed his time and expertise to further the well-being of his fellow officers and the community at large.
Peter also owned and operated two different driving schools during his lifetime. The first school was operated in the late 70’s/early 80’s in San Antonio, TX. He started the second school in Hartford, Connecticut much later in life after retiring from civil service. Through both schools Peter empowered countless young and hopeful souls to earn their driver’s licenses and gain their independence.
Peter was an avid collector of coins and stamps and truly appreciated their unique traits and the history that could be gleaned from the items in his collection. He also enjoyed donating to charities often, recognizing that communities are made stronger when you commit resources back to them. Peter was also proud of his Native American heritage and did what he could to support advocacy groups. As Peter entered the twilight of his life, he would frequent local businesses, taking a special liking to Andy’s Kitchen, where he would enjoy a delicious breakfast. He visited the establishment so often, that he became like family to the team there. As we bid farewell to Peter Mazuca, we celebrate a life well-lived. We remember a man who stood as a pillar of strength, a beacon of hope, and a true friend to many. His memory will be cherished and his contributions to the community will remain a testament to a life of service and love. Peter's family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the community of Corpus Christi for their support and care during his final days. They take solace in knowing that Peter's spirit will live on through the countless stories of his kindness, his laughter, and his unwavering commitment to making the world a better place. A life so beautifully lived deserves to be beautifully remembered. Please join us in honoring the memory of Peter Mazuca, a man who was not only a protector of the peace but also a guardian of the heart. His story is not one of sorrow, but one of triumph, friendship, and the enduring power of compassion. A Memorial Service honoring Peter will be held on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, from 4:00 PM – 5:00 PM, at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St. @ Port Ave. Rest in peace, Peter.
