Petra Nieto Moreno

Petra Nieto Moreno was called home to be with our Heavenly Father on Sunday, December 6, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.

She was born on July 6, 1940 in San Luis Potosi, Mexico, to Priscilliano Nieto and Maria Lucas Rodriguez. She married Jose Antonio Moreno, Sr. sixty years ago and they lived in Benavides, TX for 46 years before relocating to Alice, TX, where they have lived for the last 14 years.

Petra was a devout Christian and Altar & Rosary Society member at Santa Rosa de Lima Catholic Church in Benavides, TX. She dedicated her life to raising and supporting her family, making her friends feel at home, and welcoming many with a genuine smile and open arms. She enjoyed sewing, quilting, knitting, cooking, and baking for family and friends. Thus, there was hardly ever an empty chair at the table. She was also an avid Dallas Cowboy fan until the end. She was an amazing Mother, Wife, Grandmother, Great-Grandmother, Sister, Aunt, and Friend. She will be greatly missed and never forgotten.

She is proceeded in death by her parents, Priscilliano and Maria Lucas Nieto; sister, Arcadia Nieto Rodriguez; brother, Roman Nieto Rodriguez; sister-in-law, Micaela Gomez; and brother-in-law, Leonardo Perez.

She is survived by her husband, Jose Antonio Moreno, Sr.; daughter, Irma (Efrain) Buentello; sons, Jose Antonio (Olga) Moreno Jr., Jose Juan (Becky) Moreno, and Ruben Nieto; and numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and extended family.

The family will receive condolences from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM on Wednesday, December 9, 2020, at Trevino Funeral Home, 120 E. Front Street; with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A funeral cortege will depart the funeral home at 10:15 AM to St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Freer, TX for a mass of Christian burial at 11:00 AM. Interment will follow at Hahl Memorial Cemetery in Freer, TX.

Honoring her as pallbearers will be Clint Alan Brown, Orlando Adrian Buentello, Pete Joseph Chapa, Victor James Chapa, Rosendo Nieto Espiricueta, and Michael Ray Sanchez. Honorary pallbearers will be Raul Canales, Michael Perez, and Romeo Rene Ramirez.

Facial masks must be worn, and social distancing must be practiced while attending funeral services due to the current pandemic.
