Porfirio "Blackie" Zamora

Porfirio Zamora passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Saturday, June 6, 2020 at the age of 80.  Porfirio was born in 1940 to Daniel Zamora and Francisca Gonzalez.  He was the big brother to Arturo, Abraham, and Magdalena.  His mother, Francisca, was his inspiration and he dedicated most of his youth to looking out for his siblings.  Porfirio often described himself as a short, dark kid with a funny name that caused him to get into lots of fights.  His proclivity to mix it up with whoever deserved it led to an amazing career as an amateur, and eventually a professional boxer.  A career that saw him win multiple golden glove titles as an amateur, as well as state lightweight championships as a professional and then becoming one of Corpus Christi’s first local sports heroes.  It was during the lead up to one of his golden gloves matches that he met the love of his life, Christina.  Porfirio would go on to marry Christina and start a love affair that would last over 61 years and produce six children: Dolores, Daniel, Yolanda, Rosalinda, RoseAnn, and Porfirio Jr.  Porfirio is described by his children as an amazing father who dedicated his life to guiding, as well as providing for his children.  Porfirio loved and was loved by everyone he met.  He was as well known for his sense of humor and kind heart as he was for his left hook and is described by his friends as a good person with a kind soul.  He leaves behind a legacy that includes 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.  Porfirio will be dearly missed by all whom knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his infant son, Daniel Zamora; mother, Francisca Gonzalez; father, Daniel Zamora; great-grandson, Jacob Gabriel Flores; and brothers, Arturo Zamora and Abraham Zamora.

The family will receive condolences from 5:00 to 9:00 pm on Wednesday, June 10, 2020, at Treviño Funeral Home; with a prayer service to begin at 7 pm. A chapel service will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2020, at 12:00 pm at Trevino Funeral Home. Cremation will follow.
