Rachel Portales Cantú

It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Rachel Portales Cantú (born in Gonzales, Texas), who passed away on March 23, 2024, at the age of 92, leaving to mourn family and friends.

She was predeceased by her parents, Jose Portales and Cornelia Portales, and her siblings, Lupe Valdez, Joe Portales, Andres Portales, Ofelia Portales, Josephine Ramirez, and Consuelo Flores.

She is survived by her siblings, Dr. Carlos Portales and Becky Portales Caceres; her children, John J. and wife, Sylvia Puzon Cantú, Andrew and wife, Judy Cantú, Sylvia Portales Cantú, and Anna Marie and husband, Abraham Espinosa. She is also survived by her grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and many loving nieces and nephews.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Treviño Funeral Home Chapel, 3006 Niagara, Corpus Christi, TX, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM. A Holy Rosary will be recited at 7:00 PM that evening.

Funeral Mass will be held on Wednesday, April 3, 2024, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 601 N. Pecan St., Moulton, TX, at 10:00 AM. Interment will follow at St. James Catholic Cemetery, 1727 St. Andrews St., Gonzales, Texas, at 12:00 PM.

Honoring Rachel as pallbearers will be Richard Portales, Joseph Portales, Charles Portales, Will Portales, Chuck Portales, Art Caceres, Jacob Moreno, and Raul Ramirez.
