Raymond Cavazos

Raymond "Wero" Cavazos, a beloved father, grandfather, brother, and friend, passed away peacefully in his home in San Diego, Texas on September 11, 2023. Born in Mathis, Texas on June 25, 1956, to Francisco and Guadalupe Cavazos, Wero was known for his generosity, boundless love, and handy skills.

Wero was preceded in death by his wife, Irma Guerrero; parents, Francisco and Guadalupe Cavazos; maternal grandparents, Luis and Juanita Hernandez; paternal grandparents, Francisco and Petra Cavazos; brothers, Melecio Cavazos, Tommy Cavazos, and Francisco Cavazos III; sister, Maria Rosario Cavazos; brother-in-law, Rolando Gonzalez; sister-in-law, Irma Cavazos; and nephews, Michael Cavazos and John Richard Cavazos.

He is survived by his sons, James Lee (Sabrina) Guerrero, Rey Reyes Torres Jr., and Raul (Kelly) Torres; daughters, Julie (Jose) Garza, Edna Lee (Scott) Cummings, and Barbara A. (Cruz) Martinez. He also leaves behind his siblings, Corina (Ignacio) Estrada, John (Aida) Cavazos, Patsy (Paul) Doria, Mary (Jesse) Palacios, Rafael (Rosa) Cavazos, Louie Cavazos, Nancy Gonzalez, Roger (Gracie) Cavazos, and Ricky (Janell) Cavazos; his grandchildren, whom he raised as his own, Anastasia (Ray) Pena, Athena Guerrero, Alektra Guerrero, Azlynn Guerrero, James Lee Guerrero Jr.; great-granddaughter, Braelynne Pena Guerrero; five additional grandchildren and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was a proud alumnus of Nayer Elementary School, Dubose Junior High School, and William Adams High School. Wero was a hardworking and punctual man who instilled the same values in his children. He was a trusted employee at Barrientos Tire Shop, a skilled truck driver, and a dedicated oilfield worker. His versatility extended beyond his professional life, as he was a jack of all trades who could fix anything. Wero was a radiant source of joy and positivity. He had a passion for Spanish songs and corridos, often singing along with a gleam in his eye. He appreciated the simplicity and nostalgia of black and white TV shows, with John Wayne and Gun Smoke being his favorites. Wero was a master of the grill, often seen barbequing while smoking his handmade Bugler tobacco cigarettes and sipping on his Natural Lite beer. He treasured family gatherings and celebrations, especially when he could spend time with his precious grandchildren and great-granddaughter. He was a dependable provider, always ensuring that his children had enough food, gas for the car, and good tires. In doing so, he imparted important life values to his children.

Raymond "Wero" Cavazos will be remembered for his loving nature, generosity, and handy skills. His memory will be carried in the hearts of all who knew him. Wero's spirit will live on through the countless lives he touched and the immense love he shared.

Raymond’s family will receive condolences on Saturday, September 23, 2023, from 10:00 AM until 12:00 PM, at Trevino Funeral Home Alice, 120 E. Front St., with a Holy Rosary to begin at 12:00 noon. Services will conclude in the Chapel.
