Reuben Todd Garcia, of Alice, Texas, was called home to be with our Lord on November 29, 2022 at the age of 51. He was born in San Antonio, Texas on April 1, 1971 to Dr. Ruben M. and Francisca V. Garcia. Reuben Todd was an Alice High School graduate and a graduate of the Commonwealth Institute of Funeral Service in Houston, Texas. Upon graduation, Reuben completed his apprenticeship under Claudio Herrera at Memorial Funeral Home in Corpus Christi, Texas. In 1996 he worked alongside his family to open the doors of Ruben M. Garcia & Sons Funeral Home. Reuben worked as a Funeral Director for close to 20 years and at Regional Home Health Agency, the family business, since 2003. Currently, Reuben was the Administrator of Regional Health Agency where he worked alongside his wife to continue serving the needs of our community at a business his parents began in 1983.
Reuben was a 4th degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council #3169, a member of the Pan American Golf Association, a member of Amigos for Education, a member of the City of Alice Planning and Zoning Commission, was recently appointed as the City of Alice Civil Service Commissioner and was a past member of the Jim Wells County Appraisal District Review Board. Reuben, or “El Todd” as he was often referred to at the golf course, was a PAGA 3-time Club Champion (2 of them back-to back) and a one-time National Champion. One of his greatest pastimes was at the golf course amongst friends and family.
Above all, and most importantly, Reuben was a very loving and caring husband, father, son, brother and a loyal friend. He lived life to the fullest and never met a stranger. Every person, to him, was just a friend he hadn’t met yet. He always saw the good in people. Sometimes that’s all Reuben could see, even if no one else could. Together Reuben and his wife created a life they loved. Raising their children was one of Reuben’s greatest accomplishments. He was very proud of each of his children and how they, at such a young age, had become more than he and his wife could have ever imagined. Reuben will be greatly missed; but never forgotten. He will forever live in the hearts of those lives he has touched.
Reuben was preceded in death by his father, Dr. Ruben M. Garcia; his father-in-law, Amando S. Montemayor; his maternal grandparents, Epifanio and Concepcion Naranjo; and his paternal grandparents, Paulino and Delfina Garcia.
He is survived by the love of his life and best friend, Selina M. Garcia; his mother, Francisca V. Garcia; his mother-in-law, Thelma E. Montemayor; his children, Julyssa (Abel Gallegos) Rodriguez, Derek Rodriguez, Shawn Garcia, Victoria (Jeremy Sanchez) Garcia and Reuben Todd Garcia II.; his brother, Jason R. Garcia, his sister-in law, Sara (Aaron) Garcia; his nephews, Jason Garcia and Michael Garcia; and numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.
The family will be receiving friends on Monday, December 5, 2022 from 9-10 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alice, Texas. A memorial tribute will begin at 9:40 am. A memorial mass will be held at 10:00 a.m. followed by a procession to the Alice Municipal Golf Course. A private burial will be held at a later time.
