Reynold Garza Valdez, 86, returned to his creator on October 3, 2016. Born to Teofilo and Olivia Valdez on February 12, 1930 in Monterrey, Mexico he came to the United States in 1954 and enlisted in the U.S. Air Force.
In 1955 he married his hometown sweetheart the former, Maria Luisa Martinez. Together they raised four beautiful daughters and shared 61 wonderful years of marriage.
After serving numerous assignments in the U.S. and overseas, Technical Sergeant Valdez retired from active duty in 1975 and became a longtime resident of Del Rio, Texas, where he owned and operated the Valdez Cabinet Shop. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8552 and the Suez Shriners Temple. An avid outdoorsman, Rey remained passionate about hunting and fishing.
Rey and Maria moved to their current home in Corpus Christi in 1996 and became active members at the Zavala Senior Center.
Rey is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife, Maria; his daughters, Sonia (Mark) Kauzlarich, Gabriella (Danny) Dodd, Mary Jane (Boni) Garza, and Susan (Marty) Sedlacek; sisters, Laura and Gloria Trevino. He is blessed with nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Services will be held on Monday, October 10, 2016, at 10 AM at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
