Richard Garza

Richard Garza, a spirited and selfless man, known for his thoughtfulness and generosity, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family on August 25, 2024, in his hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas. Born on June 3, 1954, in the same city, Richard's life was a testament to his unwavering commitment to his loved ones and the community that he held so dear. Richard's journey began as the cherished son of the late Irene and Manuel T. Garza. His early years in Corpus Christi were filled with close-knit family ties and friendships that he would maintain throughout his life. Richard was that rare soul who would stand by your side through thick and thin, a trait that endeared him to all who knew him. He found his lifelong companion in Patricia Ann Garza, affectionately known as Sissy, and together they built a family anchored in love and laughter. Richard was a devoted father to Richard Jr. and his wife Yvonne, Tammy Lynn and her husband Jesse, and Tonya Leanna and her husband Richard. His role as a grandfather was one, he cherished deeply, imparting wisdom and joy to his grandchildren, Richard III (Carolina), Roger Lee (Jennifer), Justin Jay (Vanessa), Jesse Clark, Deamber Denise Moreno (Albert), Alyssa Jade Coleman (Brandon), Makayla Ann (Ismael), Eliseo Garza Coleman (Desiree), and Ismael Garza Coleman. His great-grandchildren—Justin Modesto Garza, Aahriyah Tanksley, Adelyne Faith Garza, Aiden Jay Garza, Julissa Marie Garza, Ayvah Jaylyne Garza, Danilynn Garza, Beya Riley Moreno, Haisley Moreno, Jayceon Ricardo Ray Morgan, Deborah Nevaeh Garza, Bella Rose Coleman, Serenity Renee Garza, Jhenia Maze Garza, Nehemiah Rynn Perez, Aria Jade Garza, Arya Rae Coleman, and Nehmelia Rye Perez—were a source of immeasurable pride and happiness. Richard is also lovingly remembered by his sister, Minerva Saucedo and her family, and his nephew, Alfred William Smith and his family, who together with the Garzas form a tapestry of shared memories and enduring bonds. His brother-in-law Robert Leon Stroud, along with his children and grandchildren, also held a special place in Richard's heart. A skilled welder since the age of 17, Richard's work was not just a profession but a passion. His affable nature meant that there wasn't a room he entered without recognizing a friend or making a new one. His dedication to his craft was matched only by his commitment to helping others, often volunteering his time and skills to benefit families in need. Richard's interests reflected his zest for life and his love for adventure. Whether he was casting a line on a serene fishing trip with his family, feeling the wind on his face while riding his motorcycle, or cheering on his favorite wrestlers, he exuded a joy for living that was infectious. His legendary barbecues, often hosted with his son and sons-in-law, were not just feasts of delicious food, but also gatherings that brought people together for a common cause. Those who had the privilege of knowing Richard will remember him for his boundless energy, his readiness to lend a helping hand, and his ability to light up a room with his presence. He was a man whose actions spoke louder than words, always putting others before himself and ensuring that his family's needs were met with love and dedication. As we bid farewell to Richard Garza, we celebrate a life well lived and a man well loved. His spirit will continue to guide us, and his memory will forever be etched in the hearts of those he touched. Richard's journey on this earth may have come to an end, but his influence will resonate for generations to come.
