Rico (Richard) Guajardo
Rico Guajardo passed away on July 8th, 2024. He is survived by his companion, Adrianna Benavidez, his mother, Dolores Dunn, and his sister Diana Muggill, and a brother Manuel Guajardo; his children, Vanessa, Richard (Richie), Eric, James Guajardo and Willie Diaz, former wives and mother of his children, Grace Guajardo and Gloria Samora Guajardo, four grandchildren and two great grandchildren. During his teen years and into adulthood he learned to play drums, blow a saxophone and master the guitar. Rico formed a Tejano group called Pura Vida, recording three albums, and gaining regional success. Recently, he was interviewed by Tejano great Eddie Olivo. Rico was honored and inducted into the Tejano Hall of Fame for his contribution to the Tejano music industry. On July 10, 2024, a tribute in his honor and his music was aired on SoundCloud.
He was a graduate of Roy Miller High School,1966. He served in the United States Army.
Visitation for Rico Guajardo will be held at Treviño Funeral Home from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM on Sunday, July 21, 2024; a Holy Rosary will be recited at 6:00 PM. On Monday July 22, 2024, a funeral mass will be held at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 11:30 AM, 710 S 19th St, Corpus Christi, TX, followed by the burial ceremony at 1:00 PM at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, 9974 I-37, Corpus Christi, TX.
