Richard Martin Sandoval, age 59, went to join our heavenly father on Thursday, October 13, 2022. He passed away in his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on August 23, 1963, to Jose and Rufina Rico Sandoval in Corpus Christi, Texas.
He was employed by the Corpus Christi Army Depot, where he worked as an Aircraft Mechanic for over twenty years. He enjoyed traveling, working on the house, cooking BBQ, attending and/or watching his favorite sports teams, such as the Dallas Cowboys and the Houston Astros along with his family.
Richard graduated Class of 1981 from Foy H Moody High School of Corpus Christi, Texas. After he graduated from high school, he did not hesitate to step up and serve his country. It takes a unique and special individual to sacrifice himself for the love of his family, friends, and his country. Richard was selfless when he chose to serve. The Bible says, “Greater love has no one than this: to lay down one’s life for the one’s friends.” John Chapter 15 Verse 13.
Richard’s military career began when he enlisted into the United States Marine Corps and began his active-duty service on December 30th 1981, and was Honorably Discharged on December 29th 1984. He completed 3 years of service and was trained as an 0341 Mortar-Man. He earned the Rifle and the Pistol Expert badges. He was also awarded the Sea Service Deployment and the Good Conduct Ribbons.
He served in the 2nd Battalion, 7th Marines 1st Marine Division in Camp Pendleton, California. He also served in the Texas Army National Guard with the 386th Engineers Battalion at the Hector P. Garcia Armory in Corpus Christi, Texas from 1998 to 2001 where he was trained as a Diesel Engine Mechanic. He was honorably discharged and was more than proud to serve not only his country, but also his community in Corpus Christi, Texas.
Richard was a loving husband, father, step-father, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, and friend. He will be dearly missed by all who knew him.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Jose and Rufina Sandoval; his brothers, David Sandoval, Elivorio Sandoval, and Jose C. Sandoval, all of Corpus Christi, Texas.
Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife, Belinda Sandoval; his children, Martin (Ciera) Sandoval, Ricardo (Lindsay) Sandoval, Mercedes Sandoval, and Tiana Sandoval; stepchildren, Larry and Brandon Gamez; his brothers, Manuel (Grace) Sandoval and Fred (Rachel) Sandoval; his sister, Mary Lou (Roland) Sandoval-Capetillo; and numerous nieces and nephews.
