Robert Sherman Ballien

Robert Sherman Ballien, known affectionately as Dad to all who knew him best, passed away peacefully on March 17, 2025, in his hometown of Corpus Christi, Texas, at the age of 81. Born on January 22, 1944, to a loving family in the same city, Robert's life was a century-long testament to the strength of character, love of family, and joy in life's simple pleasures.

After graduating from Mary Carroll High School, Robert honorably served his country as a U.S. Army Veteran. His dedication to service was evident in all areas of his life, as he continued to volunteer within his community throughout his years. Robert's work as a mechanic showcased not only his skill with machines but also his ability to connect with people from all walks of life. He was a devoted husband, a loving father, a loyal friend, and a proud patriot.

Robert was a man of many interests and passions. He found immense joy in family gatherings, often recounting stories over a cold beer or a smooth tequila. His love for Hot Rods was more than a hobby; it was a way of life, with the roar of an engine and the shine of chrome bringing a twinkle to his eye. An avid fisherman, Robert's happiest moments were often spent with a fishing rod in hand, whether by a serene shore or on the coastal waters near his home. The game of billiards was another of Robert's talents, and he was known for his sharp eye and steady hand. Traveling, swimming at the beach, and soaking in the sun were activities that brought Robert relaxation and adventure in equal measure. His musical tastes were as eclectic as his interests, spanning from the classic tunes of oldies to the energetic beats of modern rock. Whether he was having a good laugh with friends or enjoying the thrill of watching Drag Racing, Nascar, or his beloved Dallas Cowboys, Robert lived each moment with enthusiasm. Westerns and SciFi were among his favorite genres, and he could often be found engrossed in an episode of Blue Bloods or a classic film. His love for these stories was more than entertainment; it was a reflection of his own spirit of adventure and exploration.

Robert's family was the cornerstone of his life. He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter with his beloved wife Gracie D. Ballien, his children, Robert Pina, Veronica Pina Perez, Benjamin J. Ballien, Grace A Ballien, and Gabrielle Ballien. His memory will be cherished by his brothers and sisters in spirit, Emeterio Garcia, Victor Espinosa, Brenda Gonzalez, Jennie M.S. Rodriguez, Javier Diaz, Yvette Contreras, R.C. Rubio Garza, Esmeralda Gonzalez, Miroslava Andrada; his grandchildren, Jessica Mendiola, Vanessa Villafuerte De La Garza, Joseph Villafuerte, Caroline Esquivel, Stephanie Esquivel, and Jesse Esquivel, Angel Pina, Melanie Pina, Zachary Pina, Alexandra Lopez, Abriana Villarreal and Isaac Ballien, as well as by Debbie Pina and the many great grandchildren, cousins, brothers, and sisters who filled his life with joy.

In the words of an old adage often shared by Robert, "A life well lived is a precious gift, of hope and strength and grace, from someone who has made our world a brighter, better place." His was indeed such a life, touching all who knew him with his warmth, wit, and wisdom. Robert Sherman Ballien's journey through life was a remarkable one, marked by the love he gave and the love he received.

He will be deeply missed, but his spirit will live on in the hearts of those he touched. As we say farewell to a man who was truly larger than life, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy will continue to inspire us every day.
