Roberto S. Guajardo, age 91, passed away on May 16, 2022. He was born on December 4, 1930, to Federico and Concepcion Guajardo in Laredo, Texas. Roberto graduated from St. Joseph’s Academy Catholic High School in Laredo, Texas. As a young man, he was very athletic in high school as he was a three sport varsity athlete in baseball, basketball. and football. He attended the University of Houston. He enlisted in the United States Army in the midst of the Korean War. He was stationed in Germany and was a radio operator and paratrooper.
He married the love of his life, wife Gloria Lozano of 66 years, on June 5, 1955 in Laredo, Texas and soon after moved to Corpus Christi, Texas. He was employed by Union Pacific Railroad for 31 years while raising his family. Roberto was also known as “Robert” or “Mr. G” to many and “Papo” to his two grandsons who he adored. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and a great friend.
Roberto was a simple man with a kind heart and always put others before himself. Those who never met him, truly missed meeting a great man. Roberto enjoyed taking care of his house and working with tools. He had his own unique style of repairing anything and everything around the house. He also enjoyed reading the newspaper, keeping up with sports, and relaxing in his retirement years. He really enjoyed sports and talking with his grandsons about the games. That seemed to bring him the most joy later in life as he continued to connect with his grandsons. His favorite teams were the Dallas Cowboys, Houston Astros, and the San Antonio Spurs. Aside from watching sports, he enjoyed watching his favorite show, The Andy Griffith Show.
Roberto is preceded in death by his parents, Federico and Concepcion Guajardo; brother, Federico Guajardo Jr; and a son, Jose Guajardo, who passed away shortly after birth.
