Roberto Herrera

Roberto Herrera passed peacefully into the arms of our Heavenly Father on June 23, 2020 while his family stood vigil around him in this world encouraging him into the arms of Jesus.  We knew he was also being cheered on in the heavenly realm by those who have gone before him; assuring him that his work on earth was done…” Well done my good and faithful servant”.

He possessed a strong work ethic which began when he enlisted in the United States Army in 1945 at the age of 19 and remained with him for the duration of his life.  His Army career took him to the 98th General Hospital in Munich, Germany where he was stationed during World War II.   As a Private First Class, he was trained as a Medical Aidman assigned to the Medical Corp where he performed a multitude of tasks that enabled him to administer first-aid treatment to the sick, injured, and wounded.  Roberto received an Honorable Discharge from the United States Army in 1946 and was recognized for his service to our country when he was awarded the World War II Victory Medal and the Occupation Medal.

Roberto began driving for Lone Star beer – a career which he maintained for thirty-seven years.  After his departure from Lone Star, he went on to work for the local Dodge dealership until his retirement.

Roberto’s life revolved around his family and his commitment to providing for and protecting them.  He married the love of his life, Olga Aguirre Perez, in October of 1953 and was blessed with six children.  Not only did Roberto raise his own children, but he and Olga also had active roles in the rearing of many of their grandchildren.  This bond is still evident in those relationships today and the love, encouragement, and security they received at his hands makes his passing even more difficult.  He was always a constant source of love, joy, and happiness to his family and the void he leaves in our lives will be great.  Roberto’s passing around Father’s Day is significant because his commitment to his family was such a big part of his life that even though his physical body was no longer able to contain his abundant spirit, he lingered until this day to ensure that he was able to see his family and spend one final Father’s Day with them.  Happy Father’s Day Dad – we love you.

Roberto is preceded in death by his wife, Olga Herrera; son, Fidencio Ruperto Herrera; daughter, Mary Lou; parents Dario and Maria de la Luz Rosa Herrera; brothers Manuel, Santiago, Tomas Herrera; and sisters, Guadalupe Herrera and Rosa Valdez.

Among those left to cherish his memory are his children, Roberto Herrera, Jr., Alice H. Morales, Kelly Maria Herrera, and Willie (Mary) Herrera; sister, Margarita Nunez; brother, Alfredo; 19 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren; and numerous nephews, nieces and extended family.

The family will receive condolences on Tuesday, June 30, 2020, at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St. @ Port, from 10 AM to 1 PM; with a Prayer Service to begin at 12:30 PM.  A Funeral cortege will depart the funeral chapel at 1:30 PM to Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery for Rite of Committal and Interment with Military Honors at 2 PM.
