Roberto Mendez

Roberto Mendez passed away on December 8, 2017 at the age of 77. He was a loving father, brother, uncle and friend. Roberto retired from Reynolds Metals Sherwin Alumina Plant after 36 years of service. He was a loyal member of ABG (Aluminum Brick and Glass International Union), then later the USW (United Steelworkers International Union) Local 235A. He also was a Charter member (Trustee) of SOAR (Steelworkers Organization of Active Retirees). Roberto was also an active usher for Holy Family Catholic Church. He will be truly missed by those who loved him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Roberto and Benita Mendez; sister, Maria Juarez; brother, Crispin Mendez; nephew, Ernesto Sauceda; sister-in-law, Delia Ortiz.

Roberto is survived by his loving wife of 51 years, Olga Mendez; daughter, Gracie (Jose) Arce; son, Robert Mendez, Jr.; grandsons, Jose Angel Arce and Carlos Arce; sisters, Tere Mendez and Mary Lou Mendez; brother, Enrique Mendez; sisters-in-law, Olivia Mendez, Elena Mendez, and Connie (Inez) Fonseca; numerous nieces, nephews and extended relatives.

The family will receive condolences on Thursday, December 14, 2017 at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St. at Port from 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., where a vigil for the deceased and holy rosary will be recited at 7:00 p.m.; Funeral cortege will depart the funeral chapel at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, December 15, 2017 to Holy Family Catholic Church where a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:30 a.m. Interment and Committal Service will follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
