Ronnie Townsend

Ronnie Townsend was born September 30, 1956, the 2nd of a twin, to the late Cleveland Townsend Sr. and the late Ida Mae Oliver, in Schulenburg, Texas. Ronnie accepted Christ, at an early age, at the Mt. Zion Baptist Church, Corpus Christi, Texas, under the late Pastor/Rev. R. A. Hicks.

Ronnie attended school in the CCISD and graduated from Roy Miller High School. Ronnie loved the game of basketball and was good at it. The 1973-1974 Miller Battlin Buc Boys Basketball were the 29-6 Undefeated District 27AAAA Champs 16-0. Ronnie was a Regional Finalist and was inducted into the Hall of Fame at Roy Miller High School in 2013-2014.

There were several articles written by the Corpus Christi Caller Times during their games. After Graduation Ronnie joined the US Army. Ronnie re-located back to Corpus Christi, Texas and worked with Fulton Construction.

Ronnie was an avid Dallas Cowboy and Houston Astro fan.

Ronnie is survived by his life partner, Wanda Young; son, Keyonis Townsend of Miami, Florida; one brother, Edward Oliver; two sisters, Janice Henderson and Diane Hall all of Corpus Christi, Texas; one sister-in-law, Bertha Lemons of Houston, Texas; two stepsisters, Vivian and Eileen Denson of Houston, Texas; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

He is preceded in death by his mother and father; step-father, Leroy Denson; six brothers, Ernest Lemons, Jr., Melvin Lemons, Sr., Clifton, Cleveland Jr., Raymond, and Donnie Townsend; step-brothers, Larry, Donald and Melvin Denson; and four sisters, Ruby Scallion, Shirley Mitchell, Wendy Greenwood, and Jacquelyn Oliver.

Ronnie’s family will receive condolences on Friday, October 4, 2024, at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St. @ Port Ave, from 8:00 AM – 9:00 AM. Rite of Committal and Interment with Full Military Honors will follow at 10:00 AM at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
