Rose Marie Rivier Gonzalez

Rose Marie Rivier Gonzalez passed away on Wednesday, January 25, 2017, in Corpus Christi, TX at the age of 76. Rose Marie attended Northside Jr. High where she loyally served as Student Council President. She later graduated from Roy Miller High in 1960 where she held office as Vice-President of Student Council, and met her high school sweetheart, future husband, and father of her first four children. Always willing to help those in need, Rose volunteered as a Candy-Striper at Spohn Hospital, while taking classes at Del Mar College to become a Registered Nurse. Instead she went on to work at Memorial and Bay Area Hospitals as a Pharmacy Technician, and dedicated herself to serving the needs of “her” patients far beyond her obligational duties. In her late thirties, she married once again to whom she described as “the love of her life”. With this marriage came the birth of another baby girl, and the addition of two more sons and a daughter.

Her family was always priority, second only to her love of GOD, Jesus Christ, and Holy Mary. She sacrificed much of her time and energy to ensure our wellbeing, surround us with love, and guide us to the LORD.

Rose respected and embraced her cultural heritage. She enjoyed singing, dancing, playing the piano, and listening to Hispanic music. In anguish, she relished the tangos of Carlos Gardel; in wistful remembrance, she sang along with the romantic boleros of Los Panchos; and in her blissful spurts of joy, she falsettoed with Lucha Villa.

What Rose enjoyed most was expressing the compassion and love she felt in her heart. She loved all people, and in particular children. Her grandchildren were the light of her life always bringing a smile to her face, and giving her a reason to laugh. She had an unforgettable, and contagious laugh; one that will sound in our hearts forever. Her level of generosity was rare; she was known to spend the last few dollars on shoes or clothes for some disadvantaged child or family and friends in need. Her ability to forgive was saintly. She is an inspiration to all that knew her, and we will miss her dearly.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Joaquin and Arabelia Rivier; sisters, Marcelina Portillo and Cristina Aguilar; brother, Jesus Rivier; grandparents

Rose Marie is survived by her children, Chris Rivier, Daniel Cadena, Ross Cadena, Debi (Edward) Rivier-Harris, Angelica Arabelia Rivier-Gonzalez; children by marriage, Alma Gonzalez, Marcos Gonzalez, and Ernesto Gonzalez; siblings, Joaquin Rivier, Ernestina Saenz, and Cecilio Rivier; grandchildren, Erin N. Aguirre, Jacob, Adrianna Marie, Kristen, Mat and Diego Cadena, Karuna, Roan, Toshi, and Nanaiya Harris, and Roman Ico Parks.
