Obituary

Ruben Emilio Moreno, Jr. entered peacefully into eternal life while surrounded by his loving family on February 26, 2026, in Corpus Christi, Texas. Ruben was known as Junior to his siblings, but the words “Dad”, “Daddy”, and “Big Grandpa” were music to his ears. Ruben was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who will be remembered for his love of family, his generosity, kindness, respect, and love for his country.

As a Master Electrician and Carpenter, Ruben poured his heart and skill into every project he undertook, showcasing a remarkable dedication to his craft. He took immense pride in his work, always striving for excellence while nurturing the dreams of others through his talents and steady hands.

Ruben took immense pride in having served his country in the United States Marine Corps, where he attended Military School and was awarded the Rifle Marksman Badge and the Good Conduct Medal, a testament to his character and commitment. His patriotism and respect for country and community mirrored the values he instilled in his family.

Ruben embraced a variety of outdoor hobbies such as hunting and fishing. He was a loyal fan of the Dallas Cowboys and his enthusiasm for the game was contagious to those around him. Ruben had a soft spot for John Wayne films and WWE wrestling, often enjoying his favorite treat, ice cream, while watching his favorite TV shows. His excitement and hearing his laughter while he enjoyed the camaraderie alongside his family and friends was cherished by those who gathered to celebrate any occasion.

Oh, but come Christmas season, Ruben was ready to celebrate the joyful season of giving, rejoicing and enjoying the family unity. Christmas music was all he would listen to during this time of year and Christmas Hallmark movies were all he watched. However, his greatest joy was watching the excitement of his grandchildren opening their Christmas gifts and having all his family gathered to share a meal, share laughter, share jokes, and reminisce.

Ruben is lovingly remembered by his devoted wife of 45 years, Nelda C. Moreno; his children, Shanea (Nathan) Charles, Christine Moreno, Priscilla (Marcos) Mayorga, and Julio (Larissa Saldivar) Moreno; his grandchildren, Zabdiel Charles, Gwendolyn Charles, Everlee Moreno, Anakin Moreno, Julius Mayorga, Alayna Mayorga, Lindsey Luera, and Lorysa Luera; along with a great-grandchild, Albert Saldivar; and his siblings, Sally (Arnold) Benavides, Rosie Moreno, Mary Carillo, Bertha Garza, John (Irma) Moreno, and Ralph (Kelly) Moreno. His numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends who were fortunate to have known and loved him will also remember him and cherish his memory.

Ruben’s legacy will continue through his family, radiating his warmth, humor, and strong spirit in their hearts. Ruben will be remembered as a remarkable man who loved fiercely and lived fully.

Ruben’s family will receive condolences on Tuesday, March 10, 2026, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, at Treviño Funeral Home Alice, with the Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. Liturgy of the Word will be held the following day, Wednesday, March 11, 2026, at 9:00 AM, at Treviño Funeral Home Alice. A funeral cortege will depart the funeral home at 10:00 AM for Rite of Committal and Interment with Full Military Honors at 11:00 AM at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.

Ruben Emilio Moreno, Jr. will forever be remembered for his kindness, strength, and devotion to his family—a true testament to a life well-lived.
