Ruben Salinas, 64, of Corpus Christi, Texas passed away peacefully and surrounded by his family on Saturday, September 4, 2021. He was a loving husband, father, and friend to all who knew him.
Ruben was born on October 5, 1956 in Corpus Christi to Guadalupe and Maria (Guerrero) Salinas. He graduated from Miller high school in 1975 and then joined the United States Air Force. He later worked as a manager of SecOps, a security guard business, and worked there until he fell ill. Ruben married the love of his life, Dolores Soria, whom he lovingly called “Vida”, short for “mi vida”, on April 29, 2006 in Raymondville, Texas. He enjoyed raising their son Isaac, as he had no greater wish than to be able to raise his children. His only regret in life was that he did not get enough time with all his children. He enjoyed being a grandfather and was devoted to his family.
Ruben was a member of Emmanuel Baptist Church and doted on being a veteran of the US Air Force; so much so that when he became an amputee, he custom ordered the new leg to show the love he had for his country and he wore it proudly. Interestingly, Ruben was also a former wrestler known to anyone who might remember the 1980s wrestling events held in Corpus Christi, as TC Maverick. He delighted in sharing stories and pictures of his days in the wrestling ring, and even thought of making it his profession at one time.
He is preceded in death by his parents; sister, Virginia Salinas; and his brother-in-law whom he loved like a brother, Blas Balderas.
Left behind to cherish fond memories of Ruben are his wife of 15 years, Dolores; sons, Isaac and Michael Salinas; daughter, Jennifer (Sean) Masters; sister, Lucy Balderas; brothers, David (Odilia) Salinas and Hector Salinas; two very special friends and Air Force brothers, Mike Ivey and Scott Bruce; five grandchildren; one great grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
The family will receive condolences on Wednesday, September 29, 2021, from 10:00 AM to 12:30 PM at Trevino Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St. @ Port. A Memorial Chapel Service will begin at 11:30 AM followed by Rite of Committal with full military honors at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery.
Dolores would like to give a heartfelt thank you to the wonderful people who have called and given condolences; or called for a well check on herself and Isaac during this difficult time.
Face masks must be worn, and social distancing must be practiced while attending funeral services due to the current pandemic.
