San Juana "Janie" Morrow

San Juana (Janie) Ybarra Morrow, age 67, of Corpus Christi, TX passed away peacefully Thursday, September 1, 2022 after a courageous battle with cancer. San Juana was a Veteran of the US Army (1973-1977) and a graduate of West Oso High School in 1973, received a BA from Southeast Missouri University and a Master of Science in School Counseling and MS of Education from Texas A&M University Corpus Christi.   Janie’s compassion and desire to help others contributed immensely to the Texas Employment Commission by learning sign language and braille to assist hearing and vision impaired clients. She then broadened her impact through the Texas Commission for the Blind to help Texans with training and education assisting their transition from sighted to vision impaired. Continuing her passion for education, she served as a teacher for over 20 years with a focus on mathematics and bilingual education. She will be remembered as a caring and selfless educator dedicated to the success of her students in and out of the classroom. Janie was a contributor and leader within the community, involved with the Lion’s Club and various organizations serving the vision impaired. Additionally, Janie was an active member of Church Unlimited, leading the Women in Leadership for Christ group. San Juana was preceded in death by her parents, Jesus and Petra Ybarra, brothers Jesse, Estanislao, Domingo, sister Sylvia Watrin and great nephew Jonathan Lee Ybarra. She is survived by siblings Cristobal, Mary, Julian and Cruz, and children Rickey (Virginia) Gregg, Angelita Alvarez and Victoria (Rick) Martinez and six grandchildren, Samuel, Gabriel, Rhylan, Manuel, Gabriella and Elena and several nieces and nephews. Visitation services will be at Trevino Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St, Corpus Christi, TX on Wednesday, September 7, 2022 for the family from 4pm to 5pm and friends from 5pm to 9pm with a Prayer Service at 7pm. A Chapel Services will be held at Trevino Funeral home on Thursday at 11:30am followed by Military Honors and burial services at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, 9974 I-37, Corpus Christi, TX at 1pm. Flowers and condolences can be sent to Trevino Funeral Home at 3006 Niagara St, Corpus Christi, TX.
