San Juanita "Janie" Chavez

San Juanita "Janie" Chavez, affectionately known as "Momo" to her loved ones, passed away peacefully on September 11, 2024, at the age of 74. She was surrounded by family and the love she gave so freely to all who knew her. Janie was raised with strong family values and a deep sense of love and devotion, which she carried throughout her life.

Janie shared 54 beautiful years of marriage with her soulmate, Ramiro "Ram" Chavez. They were married on September 11, 1970, at the Corpus Christi Cathedral. Together, they built a family rooted in love and unity. She was the beloved mother of Ramiro Chavez, Viola (James) Flores, and Rachelle (Jose) Cintron, who will forever cherish her memory. Janie was also a proud and loving "Momo" to her grandchildren: Mackenzie, Miale, Matthew, Justin, Jamie, Jenna, Izabella, Izaak, and Izaiah, and she adored her four great-grandchildren, and was excited for her 5th arriving in October.

Janie's spirit was nurtured by the closeness of her family, including two brothers, seven sisters, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews, all of whom were touched by her kindness and generosity. Her family was the center of her world, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering strength.

She was preceded in death by her infant son, Roman Albert Chavez, her mother, Mary Moreles, and her grandmother, Viola Segrest Garcia, who no doubt welcomed her with open arms in heaven.

Janie’s warmth, wisdom, and love will be deeply missed, but the impact she had on her family and friends will be felt forever. A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, Janie leaves behind a rich legacy of compassion, strength, and boundless love.

Her family will celebrate her life in a ceremony, honoring the memories they created together. Visitation will be Monday, September 16, 2024, beginning at 6 PM with the rosary to follow at 7 PM at the Corpus Christi Cathedral. A mass in her honor will take place at 10 A.M. Tuesday, September 17, 2024, at the Corpus Christi Cathedral. Committal Service to follow at Coastal Bend State Veterans Cemetery, 9974 IH 37 Access Rd. Corpus Christi, TX 78410.
