Santiago C. Soliz of Alice, Texas, was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He had a quiet strength that made the people around him feel safe, a gentle humor that could bring a smile when it was needed most, and a steady presence his family could always count on. Santiago did not need grand gestures to show how much he cared. He showed his love by being there, paying attention, and standing beside the people who mattered to him. To his family, he was a source of comfort, pride, and unconditional love. The space he holds in their lives cannot be filled. 

Santiago was a graduate of Alice High School and a proud member of the Alice Coyotes football team and marching band. He later served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1978. He went on to dedicate 33 years to serving the Alice community as a police officer. Beginning his career as a patrolman, he advanced steadily through the ranks and ultimately achieved the rank of Lieutenant. When he retired in December 2011, he left behind a record of faithful service, careful leadership, and unwavering commitment to the people he had sworn to protect. 

For 47 cherished years, Santiago shared a devoted marriage with Belen Soliz. Together, they built a life grounded in love, loyalty, and enduring commitment. He was a proud father to Juan Carlos and Monica. 

Being a grandfather to Mason and Karley Charo brought Santiago immense joy. He loved watching Mason play Bulldog football and took great pride in seeing him graduate from Texas A&M. He treasured time with Karley, too, and was happiest when his family was gathered together. Mason and Karley knew they were deeply loved, and the memories they made with their grandfather will stay with them always. 

Santiago loved watching the Dallas Cowboys, but nothing compared to his love for the Houston Astros. He was a die-hard Astros fan until the very end, always ready to cheer them on. 

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Belen Soliz; his son, Juan Carlos (Monica) Soliz of San Antonio; his daughter, Monica (Luis) Charo of Orange Grove; his two greatest treasures, grandchildren Mason and Karley Charo; his sister, Dalia (Daniel) Vansickle of George West; and his special friends, Steve and Gabby Lopez. 

He was preceded in death by his mother, Herminia Arellano; his father, Felix Arellano; his father-in-law, Johnny Bernal; his mother-in-law, Nina Bernal; his brother-in-law, Noe Bernal; his sister, Esmeralda Zavala; his best friend, Rex Ramon; and his beloved fur babies, Reyna and Jake. 

Those who knew Santiago will remember his attention to detail, his reliability, and the deep love he showed through both his words and his actions. He cared for his family with quiet devotion and met life with strength and dignity. His warmth and steadfast presence will remain in the hearts of all who loved him, and his family will carry his memory with them always. 

Santiago’s family extends their heartfelt thanks to Yvonne Longoria, his caregiver, the nurses of Mi Casa Hospice (Jessica, Bree, Lydia, and Cindy), Allegiance Ambulance in Orange Grove (Rusty and Jaime), and the neighbors, friends, and family who helped and supported them during his illness. They are also grateful to Father Julian, Pastor Roland of The Grove in Orange Grove, Mi Casa Hospice Chaplain A.B. Jimenez, and Joenick Garcia for coming to pray with Santiago. Your kindness, compassion, and prayers meant more than words can express. The family is especially grateful to the Alice Police Department and the Jim Wells County Sheriff’s Department for escorting Santiago from his home with such dignity and care. Their presence brought comfort to us during a deeply painful moment.

Santiago’s family will receive condolences on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, from 11:00 am until 1:00 PM. Recitation of the Holy Rosary followed by Liturgy of the Word will begin at 1:00 PM, and services will conclude that afternoon in the chapel. Services are entrusted to and will be conducted at Treviño Funeral Home Alice, 120 E. Front St.
