Silverio Valadez

Silverio Valadez, a pillar of his community and a man of profound faith and courage, passed away peacefully on January 26, 2025, at the age of 87, in Corpus Christi, Texas. He was born on September 13, 1937, to his parents, Pedro and Alma Valadez, in Alice, Texas. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend who lived a life marked by generosity and service.

Silverio was the proud graduate of Ben Bolt-Palito Blanco High School, class of 1955. He also attended Durham business college in San Antonio, Texas. His commitment to his country was evident through his service in the United States Armed Forces and the Texas Army National 49th Armored Division. He continued to serve his fellow veterans as a Texas National Guard Recruiter for over four decades, retiring with the rank of Command Sgt. Major. His dedication to his nation and his community was unwavering and will be remembered by all who had the privilege of working alongside him.

Throughout his life, Silverio found great satisfaction in working with his father at their family ranch. He was passionate about farming, planting crops, and working cattle. His hands were rarely still, as he also enjoyed his time working at the cotton gin. When he wasn't tending to his professional duties or the land, Silverio could be found outdoors either hunting, playing golf, or simply relaxing to the sound of music. Summer camping at Gardner State Park was a tradition where he enjoyed swimming, playing ball, climbing the hills, or barbequing - another of his amazing talents as a great cook. These pastimes provided him with a well-deserved respite and reflected his love for the simplicity and beauty of nature.

Silverio's character was the epitome of a faith-filled and courageous individual. His generosity knew no bounds and he touched the lives of many with his kindness and selflessness. He was a man who led by example, teaching those around him the value of hard work, the importance of family, and the power of faith. Silverio was an active member of St. Joseph Mission in Palito Blanco throughout his childhood and St. Joseph Catholic Church in Alice. His presence was a source of comfort and strength, and his influence will continue to be felt by all who were fortunate enough to have known him.

Silverio is preceded in death by the mother of his sons and loving wife of 49 years, Esther Valadez; his parents, Pedro and Alma Valadez; sons, Silverio “Booey” Valadez III and Eduardo Aaron “Eddie” Valadez; sister, Paula V. Gonzalez; and brother-in-law, George Blair.

Silverio's memory will be cherished by his devoted wife, Benilde S. Valadez; his son, David Valadez; his step-children; grandchildren, Vanessa, Edward, and Nick Valadez, great grandchildren, Aaron and Nathan Valadez; sisters, Sylvia Salinas (Frank), and Christina Valadez; along with numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family and dear friends who will truly miss him. As we bid farewell to Command Sgt. Major Silverio Valadez, we celebrate a life lived with purpose and love. His memory will be treasured in the hearts of all who were touched by his generous spirit, the stories of his courage, his laughter, and his unwavering commitment of his love of family and Country.  Rest in Eternal Peace, dear Silverio; your legacy will endure forever.
