Sylvia Garza, passed away peacefully on July 1, 2026, in Corpus Christi, the city where her remarkable life began on January 23, 1947. Known for her enduring strength and warmth, Sylvia was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose presence touched the lives of all who knew her.

Sylvia was born to Ben Bocanegra and Helen Ruiz Garza (Jesse Sr), who preceded her in death. She spent her life rooted in Corpus Christi, drawing deep connections within her community and her family. As a devoted daughter, wife, and mother, Sylvia embodied love and selflessness throughout the years.

Sylvia's family was her heart. She is survived by her cherished daughter, Rosa Garza, and her four devoted sons, Homero Garza Jr, Rickey Garza (Brenda), Francisco Garza (Rose), and Gilberto Garza. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, who brought joy and laughter into her days and whose lives will continue to reflect her teachings and unconditional affection.

Her siblings, Esther Gonzalez and Jesse Garza Jr (Aurora), remain to honor her memory and recall the many fond moments shared.

Sylvia was preceded in death by her loving husband, Homero Flores Garza, with whom she built a life filled with devotion and mutual respect. Later in life, she was also united in marriage to John Curiel, sharing with him companionship and tender partnership before his passing. She also mourned the loss of her sisters, Mary Helen Balaran and Olga Navarro, but kept them close in spirit throughout her days.

A woman of grace and resilience, Sylvia will be remembered for her unwavering dedication to her loved ones, her steadfast sense of family, and her gentle guidance that shaped generations. Her home was always open, her heart always generous, and her hugs a source of comfort and reassurance.

Family and friends are invited to honor Sylvia’s life and legacy during visitation on Monday, July 13, 2026, from 4:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Trevino Funeral Home, located at 3006 Niagara St, Corpus Christi, TX. A Holy Rosary and Liturgy of the Word will be held the same evening at 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home.

As we reflect upon Sylvia’s journey, we recognize a life well lived—one that enriched her family and friends alike and left an indelible mark upon all who had the privilege of knowing her. She will be deeply missed but fondly remembered, her spirit forever woven into the hearts of those she loved.
