Sylvia Guerra Hetherly

Sylvia Guerra Hetherly, a beacon of joy and strength, passed away peacefully surrounded by love on October 24, 2024, at the age of 70 in Agua Dulce, Texas. Born on September 18, 1954, in Alice, Texas, to the late Reyes and Isabel Guerra, Sylvia's life was a testament to the power of resilience and the warmth of a generous spirit.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Reyes and Isabel Guerra Sr.; her brother, Reyes Guerra Jr.; and her nephew, Nicolas M. Garza.

Sylvia’s memories will be cherished by her son, Justin Hetherly; her daughter, Jaime Caratachea Hetherly; her grandchildren, Aiden and Jennifer Hetherly; her sisters, Enedina "Nena" Saenz, Norma Davila, and Mary (Bobby) Fletcher; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews extended family, and dear friends.

For four decades, Sylvia served as a dedicated bus driver for several school districts, including Alice ISD, San Diego ISD, Orange Grove ISD, and finally retiring from Agua Dulce ISD. Her commitment to the children's safety and well-being was unwavering, and she often held two jobs to ensure her family's needs were met. Sylvia's work ethic was unmatched, and she became a familiar and comforting presence to countless students over the years. Sylvia's zest for life was evident in everything she did. She was a happy-go-lucky lady who was caring, generous, kind, and always attentive to those in need. As a single parent, she instilled in her children the values of honesty, respect, punctuality, and hard work, shaping them into the individuals they are today.

Sylvia found joy in the simple pleasures of life. She loved to dance, sing, and immerse herself in the rhythms of Tejano music. Her culinary skills were legendary, especially her delicious tamales, arroz con pollo, pan de polvo, and homemade tortillas, which were widely regarded as the best. Sylvia's favorite holiday was Thanksgiving, a time when she reveled in the opportunity to gather with family, share memories, and enjoy each other's company in an atmosphere filled with jokes, laughter, and love. As we bid farewell to this extraordinary woman, we do so with gratitude for the memories she has given us and the lessons she has taught us. Sylvia's spirit will continue to guide and uplift us. Rest in Peace, dear Sylvia, and thank you for the joy you brought to our world.
