Zenaido Barrera III, affectionately known as "Red" to all who knew him, passed away on July 7, 2024, in Odessa, Texas. He was born to Zenaido and Marianela Barrera Jr. on February 11, 1986, in Alice, Texas. Red was a man whose vibrant spirit and boundless generosity touched the hearts of many throughout his 38 years of life.
A proud graduate of Alice High School, class of 2004, Red was known for his hard work and dedication. He brought passion and enthusiasm to his career at Grant Smith Trucking where he excelled as a Forklift Operator. His love for operating the forklift was matched only by his love of family and community.
Red's life was a beautiful tapestry woven with the threads of his interests and the people he loved. He was a formidable Golden Glove Boxer, a talent that showcased his determination and spirited nature. Family gatherings were his favorite occasions, where he could be found cooking and barbecuing for his loved ones, filling the air with the sounds of Tejano and Norteno music always played at full volume to the delight of all present.
Red's generosity knew no bounds. He was the kind of man who never came to visit empty-handed, always ready to give and to share. His selfless nature was evident in the way he supported his children, who were the love of his life, and how he called daily to check on his Madrecita, as he loving called his mother; always attentive to the needs of his family and friends.
He is predeceased by his maternal grandmother, Maria Del Carmen Barrera; his paternal grandmother, Estella Barrera; his brother-in-law, Oscar Ricardo Flores; his uncle, Felix Alaniz Sr.; and his cousin, Felix Alaniz Jr. Red's memory will be cherished and kept alive by his survivors, including his parents, Zenaido Jr. and Marianela Barrera; his loving companion, Kristy Ibanez; his children, Marcos Gabriel Barrera and Mia Danyel Barrera; and children he embraced as his own, Allizae Robali, Jaiden Ibanez, Jorden Ibanez, and Ariana Rivera; his sisters, Evelyn (Carlo) Tanguma and Joselyn Barrera; mother of his children, Priscilla Lopez; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and dear friends, who will all miss him dearly.
As we bid farewell to a man of great character and warmth, we take comfort in knowing that his legacy will continue to inspire kindness, joy, and love in the hearts of those who knew him and loved him. Red’s family will receive condolences on Friday, July 12, 2024, at Trevino Funeral Home, 120 E. Front St., from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, with Holy Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM.
