Abel Garcia Obituary

Abel Garcia, a cherished veteran, spirited sports fan, and beloved family man, passed away peacefully on April 11, 2024, at the age of 65 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Born on August 17, 1958, in McAllen, Texas, Abel's life was one of service, creativity, and laughter, touching the lives of all who knew him with his generosity and humor.

As a proud member of the United States Army, Abel dedicated years of his life to serving his country with honor and courage. After his military service, Abel continued to work with diligence and care as a retired groundskeeper, a role in which he took great pride and through which he forged lasting friendships and associations.

Abel's love for life was evident in the joy he found in arts and crafts. His creative spirit brought color and excitement not only to his own life but also to those around him. He was a man who could always be counted on to lighten the mood with a clever joke or a funny story, making every moment with him memorable and uplifting.

A passionate sports enthusiast, Abel's loyalty to his favorite teams, the Dallas Cowboys and the San Antonio Spurs, was unwavering. He reveled in every game, sharing his love for football and basketball with friends and family, creating a legacy of team spirit and camaraderie.

Those who knew Abel would describe him as creative, funny, and incredibly generous. He had a natural ability to give of himself and his talents, enriching the lives of others with his handcrafted gifts and his ever-present and infectious laughter.

Abel is preceded in death by his cherished wife, Olga Estrada Garcia, his siblings, Maria Louisa, Antonia Garcia, Joe Luis Garcia, and Alejandro Garcia; and parents, Jose L. Garcia and Beatriz Garcia. His memory will be forever honored and kept alive by his devoted daughter, Bianca Moreno; stepson, Evaristo Veloz; and his adoring grandchildren, Michael Moreno Jr., and Christian Moreno. Abel’s great-grandchild, Michael Moreno III, was the light of his life, and the bond they shared was truly special. Abel’s extended family, who will miss him dearly, includes Beatrice Flores, Jose Lorenzo Jr., Adalberto Garcia, Arturo Garcia, Guadalupe Watanabe, Alfredo Garcia, Amada Pepi, Dora Marquez, and Lilia Garcia. Each of these individuals played a significant role in Abel’s journey and will continue to cherish the memories they created together.

Abel Garcia’s life was one of vibrant colors, heartfelt laughter, and selfless giving. He has left an indelible mark on the hearts of those who had the privilege of knowing him, and his spirit will continue to inspire and guide his family and friends for generations to come. Abel’s journey on earth may have concluded, but the stories of his humor, kindness, and creativity will be recounted with love and admiration, ensuring that his legacy endures forever.

Pallbearers will be Michael Moreno, Christian Moreno, Gabriel Marquez, Manuel Junior Marquez, Evaristo Veloz, and Terry Francis.

Abel’s family will receive condolences on Sunday, April 21, 2024, from 5:00 PM until 9:00 PM, at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St. @ Port Ave.; with a Holy Rosary to be recited at 6:00 PM.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Monday, April 22, 2024, at 9:30 AM at St. Peter Prince of the Apostles Catholic Church. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Coastal Bend Veterans Cemetery at 11:00 AM.
