Alicia Olivares Obituary

Maria Alicia Olivares, better known as Alicia, passed away on Tuesday, April 12, 2022, surrounded by her loving family. She was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend who will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Alicia loved her family and would go beyond the call of duty to provide for their needs. She was a great cook and she enjoyed music and dancing. She was a strong woman of faith, active in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Choir and a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church. She was also a member of Our Lady of Guadalupe Catholic Church and a Regent for the Catholic Daughters of America in Hebbronville, Texas.

Alicia’s life-time desire was to care for the medical needs of her patients. At the age of 18, she started her career as a nurse’s aide and she took great pride in making sure her patients’ beds were clean, the rooms were clean, and her patients were happy. In 1976, she earned her degree as a Licensed Vocational Nurse from Bee County College and in 1989, she received her degree as a Registered Nurse from Del Mar College while working at Alice Physicians & Surgeons Hospital. She then went on to work in Home Health and was a teacher in the medical setting.

Alicia is preceded in death by her husband of 30 years, Juan Olivares; her parents, Benito and Ernestina Sanchez; brother, Martin (Maria Angelica) Sanchez; and brother-in-law, Robert Garcia.

Left behind to cherish her memory are her daughters, Ada Leah Sanchez and Magdalena Olivares; sons, Juan Antonio (Lala) Olivares, Jesus (Maria) Olivares, and Pedro (Idalia) Olivares; sister, Laura Garcia; honorary grandchildren, Pedro Olivares Jr, Sylvia Olivares, Jacqui Olivares, Monica Garcia, Robert (Erika) Garcia, Robert (Ainslee) Mapes, Joshua (Lulu) Mapes, and Cristina (Marque) Trevino; honorary great-grandchildren, Mia, John Paul, Thiego, Alana, Camile, Cy, Lillybelle, Ryan, Maddock, Jason, Desiree, David, Alex, Angelina, Marque Jr., and Kyle; and extended family.

The family will receive condolences on Wednesday, April 20, 2022, from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM, at Trevino Funeral Home Alice, 120 E. Front St.; with a Rosary to be recited at 7:00 PM. A funeral cortege will depart the funeral home at 9:30 AM on Thursday, April 21, 2022, for a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at St. Joseph Catholic Church at 10:00 AM.
