Betty Leal Obituary

Betty Ann Leal, a cherished mother, grandmother, sister, and friend, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2023, at the age of 76 in Corpus Christi, Texas. Born on March 21, 1947, in Houston, Texas, to Walter and Gertrude Thigpen, Betty was a woman of great love, generosity, and selflessness. Her life was a testament to these virtues, and she will be fondly remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Betty spent her early years in Alice, Texas where she attended the Alice Independent School District until the 9th grade. Her academic journey may have been modest, but her wisdom and understanding of life's intricacies were profound and deeply admired. Her career in the healthcare field, as a provider for Regional Home Health, showcased her compassionate, caring, and kind nature. She touched many lives with her unwavering dedication to her patients and the care she consistently provided.

Her interests were as diverse as they were fulfilling. She was a wonderful cook, often making candy for her children to enjoy after school and preparing delicious meals during the holidays, especially for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Betty also loved to sing, often serenading her family with her favorite songs, "Coats of Many Colors", and "Sad Movies Make Me Cry". She had a contagious love for music and dance, embracing all rhythms of music and dance.

Betty's selfless devotion to her family was her proudest achievement, and her love for them was immeasurable, always putting everyone's  needs before her own. Her spirit was radiant, and her heart was made of gold.

Betty Ann Leal was a remarkable woman who will be dearly missed. Her spirit will live on in the countless lives she touched and the immense love she shared. May her soul rest in peace.

Betty was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Martin Leal Jr.; her parents, Walter and Gertrude Thigpen; her sons, David L. Leal and Martin Leal III; and her siblings, Kenneth W. Thigpen, Geneva K. Glizbe, Lola Mae Boyle, and Mildred R. Thigpen. Her memory will be treasured by her daughters, Barbara (Robert) Pierce, Nora (Alfredo) Camarillo, and Laura Leal; her sister Cora Joyce (Frank) Herford; fourteen grandchildren; nineteen great-grandchildren; and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, extended family, and dear friends.
