Claudio “Calo” “Popo” Hinojosa, age 87, was called home to our Lord on Sunday, April 18, 2021. He passed away peacefully at Santa Rosa Hospital in San Antonio, TX. He was born on March 31, 1934 to the late Arturo Sr. And Librada Hinojosa. Claudio to all who knew him was a very strong and loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend. He graduated from San Diego High School in 1952. Upon graduation he joined the U.S. Navy where he served our country on the 836 USS Holmes for four years. He then joined the Naval Reserves for an additional 4 years. Claudio married Ernestina “Tina” (Cadena) Hinojosa on October 28, 1962 and two children were born from this union. They spent the next 58 years enjoying life and raising a family. Claudio was a Supervisor Foreman for Nixon Central Construction Company for 23 years. He was also a self-employed building contractor for Hinojosa Building Contractors in which he taught his trade to his sons. When he retired, he became a member of the San Diego ISD School Board where he served two terms. He was a true Vaquero fan! Claudio truly lived life to the fullest through simple pleasures; enjoying time with his family, spending time on his tractor, gardening (can’t forget about his calabazas), taking care of his cows, and always watching his Dallas Cowboys and Houston Astros. Claudio was a noble man that always displayed patience and went out of his way to help others. Calo was a friend to many and loved by all. He will be missed by all whom knew him.
Claudio is preceded in death by his parents Arturo Hinojosa, Sr. and Librada Treviño Hinojosa, six brothers Raul, Homero, Apolino, Reynaldo, Arturo Jr., Casimiro, and two sisters Genoveva H. García and Carmen H. Arriola, and granddaughter Denisa Evette Hinojosa.
Claudio leaves to cherish his memory his wife Ernestina “Tina” Hinojosa; his two sons, Dennis (Elizabeth) Hinojosa, and Elliott (Melissa) Hinojosa; granddaughters, Marissa Claudia (Charles) Hinojosa-Nesbitt, Mandissa Lorraine (Juan) Hinojosa, Ivanna Denise (Albert) Hinojosa, Ellissa Janelle (David) Hinojosa, and Delisa Lizette Hinojosa: great-grandsons, Reggie Hinojosa, Charles “Ace” Nesbitt, Jaxson Nesbitt, Matthias Nesbitt, Dominik Mendoza, and Jaelissa Foley; numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family.
