Obituary

Douglas Gene Cleveland, a cherished family man, loyal friend, and devoted oil field worker, passed away peacefully in Corpus Christi, Texas on August 5, 2023. Born on November 7, 1970, in Liberty County, Texas, Doug was a man of character, known for his unwavering commitment to his family, friends, and work.

Doug's professional life was marked by over 30 years of service in the oil field, a career that saw him rise from an entry-level position to upper management at KCA Deutag Drilling Company Oversees. He was a man who took immense pride in his work, dedicating himself to ensuring the safety of his men. His colleagues respected him for his dedication, integrity, and leadership.

Doug was a man of many passions, with a particular love for travel, outdoor activities, and family traditions. He enjoyed going on cruises, camping, and fishing, often making these activities a family affair. His favorite holidays were Thanksgiving and Christmas, where he looked forward to having broccoli cheese casserole, a family favorite. Doug's love for desserts was well-known, and he had a special fondness for the movie "The Notebook."

Above all, Doug was a family man and is survived by his mother Dolores Cleveland; his wife, Gloria Cleveland, whom he loved dearly and adored, was his soulmate, best friend, and love of his life; he was a committed and proud father to his children, Heather Bourdon (Justin Bourdon), Janessa Castillo (Michael Castillo), Ashley Juneau (Joseph Juneau), Charles Cleveland (Eduardo Alvarado), Marina Tijerina (Ramiro Tijerina Jr.), Roel Rodriguez Jr, and Furbaby, Gizmo Ryan Cleveland. His grandchildren, Jazlyne Fussell, Ramiro Tijerina III, Isabella Tijerina, Serena Bourdon, Lexi Juneau, Layla Juneau, Rylie Bourdon, and Logan Castillo were the apples of his eye. Doug often said that his grandkids were his heart, and he loved nothing more than spending time with them.

Doug was preceded in death by his father, James Douglas Cleveland, his caring grandmother, Ethel Cleveland-Mattlen, and his uncle, Charles Monroe Cleveland. His loss is deeply felt by all who knew him, but his memory and the love he had for his family will continue to live on.

Doug was also lucky to have a circle of close friends, who called themselves "The Soggy Bottom Boys," which included Geyel & Reyna Valenzuela, Hector & Maggie Chappa, and Juan "Ben" & Susan Chapa. Their friendship was a source of joy and support for him throughout his life.

Douglas Gene Cleveland will be remembered as a man who was devoted to his family, committed to his work, and passionate about life. His legacy of love, commitment, and service will continue to inspire all who knew him. He lived a full and meaningful life, and his memory will forever be etched in the hearts of all who loved him.
