Eduvina Zavala Obituary

Eduvina “Vina” Zavala went home to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on May 19, 2021 at the age of 82. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, and friend. Vina was a native Texan, born in Raymondville and moved to Harlingen after her marriage in 1958. Her long 46+ year career in the banking industry began in Harlingen at Tropical Savings and Loan in the early ‘70’s, rose to the position of Assistant Vice President of Loan Servicing at Pacific Southwest Bank, and ended in Quality Control Loan Operations at Charter Bank in Corpus Christi when she was 77. She always spoke fondly of her many co-workers and colleagues and loved and took pride in her work life.

Vina was a member of St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Harlingen then Our Savior Lutheran Church in Corpus Christi. She was active in service to her church family whether it was with Lutheran Women's Missions League, as Church Treasurer, or assisting with Vacation Bible School whether in the kitchen or with arts & crafts; essentially, by finding any behind-the-scenes places she could volunteer.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Antonio Zavala III; daughter, Suzie Gran; parents, Filomeno and Antonia Herrera; and siblings, Librada Cantu, Raul Herrera, Ramiro Herrera, Enriqueta Gutierrez, and Rodolpho Herrera.

Vina is survived by her daughter, Marti Zavala; son-in-law, Jason Gran; grandchildren, Thomas Gran, Laura Sanchez, Matthew Rush, and Adam Gran; seven beloved great-grandchildren; elder brother, Rogelio Herrera;  and numerous much-loved nieces, nephews, and extended family.

Vina was known as a quiet, unassuming, intelligent, hard-working woman to her many friends and associates. To her family, she could be feisty and stubborn, but loved everyone with her whole heart. She was a determined, strong-willed woman who battled cancer twice and by God’s mercy, survived.

She will be forever missed by all who knew and loved her, but Vina knew Christ as her Savior and has a home in Heaven with Him. One day, if we know Him, we too will join her where God will wipe away every tear (Rev 7:15-17) in the temple that is the Lord God Almighty and the Lamb, that has no need of sun or moon to shine on it, for the glory of God gives it light, and its lamp is the Lamb (Rev 21:22-27). Vina now basks in this glorious light as she is face to face with her Savior, so we can rejoice for her while we also feel sorrow at her absence in our lives.

The family will receive condolences on Saturday, June 5, 2021, at Treviño Funeral Home, 3006 Niagara St. @ Port, from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM; with a chapel service to begin at 1:00 PM. Rite of Committal and Interment will follow at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 8200 Old Brownsville Road, Corpus Christi, TX 78415.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the American Cancer Society or a local Christian charity of your choice.

Face masks must be worn, and social distancing must be practiced while attending funeral services due to the current pandemic.
